I stayed here for 3 nights on a weekend getaway with my wife after winning a nice bid on Priceline. The price of course was great (Priceline bidding always is), and overall this is a nice property.

The hotel itself fits well with its surroundings, is nicely maintained, has very nice grounds, and the rooms appear fairly new or updated. The pools were nice, not crowded, and were heated. Overall, the facility is certainly a 4-star quality.

The location is also very good....about 2-3 miles from downtown Scottsdale, for which they offer e free shuttle to get you back and forth. They will drive you wanywhere within 2 miles of the hotel, which we used for dinner a few times.

The only issue really is service. The front desk staff that checked us in was boarderline mean (wasn't that she wasn't nice, she was almost being mean to us, for no reason). The lady was yelling at a customer on the phone before we got to her. Later when we asked to reserev a car to the airport, same thing...basically mean. Not what I expect from a hotel like this.

Other reviews mentioned long waks to their rooms....this is true, but not really a big deal to me. We were in the room farthest possible from the lobby, but the walk through the resort is pleasent....its really a nice property.

Overall, it is 4-star quality, but, they need some help with service (try being nice to guests!).

Thank you for being our guest and for this very good review and ratings. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. I have passed your feedback onto our team and specifically to our Director of Front Office so she can address the service issues you received at our desk. This is a critical area of service and such behavior is unacceptable and will be addressed immediately. I hope that the service you received from all our other team members as well as all the positives of our property you mention show you that this experience at the front desk was an exception rather than the rule. We hope that you will return again soon and we will see you again.

“Comfortable Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Stayed here on 01.28 - 01.30 in room 2211. Check in was smooth and we were offered cookies right away which was a nice perk. We got a king size room with a mini bar facing a courtyard. The walk is far, which is fine, we aren't lazy, it's good exercise. I guess when I got a description of courtyard, I was expecting something more, but it's really just a few trees, no benches or flowers planted. Just big lemon, orange trees. At night, it's a little creepy that the room is far back. it's a ghost town and really quiet, lighting is dim. They need to brighten it up a little to make people feel more secure. If I wasn't with my fiancee, I wouldn't want to walk from the lobby all the way towards the back alone. I did request a room closer to the lobby, but they weren't ready yet.

You walk in and it's the oddest thing, there is a wall that is really close to the door, so if you are in a hurry, you're more than likely to run into it. Over to the left of the door is a closet, a full length mirror, a chair and a smaller mirror. It's a nice little changing area. Walk over to your right, there is the bathroom, minibar and just past that, there is the living area which has the bed, tv, desk, love seat and coffee table. The bed was to be a king, but it seemed more like a queen. It was comfy, but I was expecting a bigger bed. The tv was a nice flatscreen with a lot of channel offerings, I wish the alarm clock was an iphone doc. The alarm clock looked kind of old. The room had a balcony which was nice. We ordered room service when we got in, we were starving. Pretty good. I ordered a steak quesadilla, partner ordered wings both were pretty good.

Hotel is a nice 10 - 15 minute walk to The Fashion Mall. We didn't use the shuttle service. Overall an okay stay. I would suggest lowering the pricing, I don't think the room is worth $220 a night. Maybe if some things were updated or they added things to the back part of the hotel.

Thank you for selecting our resort for your visit and for this good review. From this feedback, your room and your walk to it must have been on the outer side of the resort, as if you had walked through our interior courtyard to your room, you would have seen an array of flowers, grass, benches, fountains and pools. The lemon trees you saw are around the very perimeter of the property. Our clock/radios do have a port for ipods or iphones and all our single bedded rooms are kings, but we will look to verify if something was amiss in the specific room you stayed in. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay overall and we hope that you will return again when in our area so that we can ensure you see and enjoy our resort more fully than on this trip.

“Dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

My husband and I have traveled to the Phoenix-Scottsdale area many times and each time we try a new resort. We won't be returning to the Doubletree. We booked it, primarily knowing we would be spending very little time at the hotel - we had a busy itinerary meeting with friends off site. The hotel had a very competitive price, and we got what we paid for.
The exterior of the hotel is very unattractive. It's kind of a one story cinderblock bunker. The room was very dark even with the curtains open and all the lights on - not to be expected on a sunny Arizona day. The grounds are rambling and the signage is very poor. It's hard to find your room, the exercise facilities, etc. The pools looked ok, though while we were there I didn't notice anyone using them.
The coffee in the room was awful and the bottled water left out is $5 - outrageous. The room was spacious enough, with a kitchenette, desk, sofa and chair. It just was very drab. The bed was ok. We did not try the on-site dining, so I cannot speak to that. With so many options in Scottsdale, I would skip this resort and keep looking.

Thank you for selecting our resort and for this feedback on your stay. I apologize that you were not able to experience more of the amenities and services offered by our resort and that you found us dated and not to your liking. We do have a unique architecture and layout that may not appeal to all, with a block design that was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, spaciousness between rooms filled with courtyards, fountains, pools, flowers and grass. We even have an Arizona cactus garden that many enjoy. We do hope that when you return to our land of the sun, you will give us another try and have a little more time to experience and appreciate all that we offer our guests.

“Hard to see this being 4 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This is a decent hotel but hard to imagine this a 4 star resort. It is very spread out - my room was in the next zip code and signage was not very helpful to get there. Room was large and clean, towels were thick, but my view of a white tent outside the only window was disappointing. Not sure this is always up, but it was not used during my 3 days there. Room lighting is poor, bulbs seemed dim and yellow. The meeting rooms (downstairs in the basement) are cavernous and lacking in any personality at all. The wait staff during meals were very attentive and helpful - kudos to them.

Thank you for being with us for your meetings and this feedback on your stay. The Paradise Park Pavillion is up only six months of the year and is great for outside events and meals albeit not the best view from your room patio. Your room location was close to your meetings, held in the Forum, which is an expansive room best used for large gatherings and exhibit/trade shows. I do agree that it does not have the more intimate ambiance of our grand ballroom or breakout rooms located off the main lobby. We will look into why the lighting in your room was so dim and will address. We are pleased that you found the service provided by our staff to be a strength. I do hope that you will return to our area, either for a meeting, busines or for vacaton and, when you do, will give us another opportunity to show you all that we have to offer.

“Decent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Nice setting, decent lounge, average meeting space, good activity for out door sports like basketball and tennis. Hotel is colse to everything and shuttles are very convenient with courteous drivers. Clean comfortable room and very friendly staff.
Weakness:
Interior appears little dated. Toilet could have been placed 6" more inches from the wall. It was ok for me but could have problem for lots of big people. Bath fixtres were rusted. Found a spider but no web, did not complain. Housekeeping spoted the next day and it was removed.
Internet was ok.
Bathroom plumbing was veru noisy, woke me every time sombody use the bathroom in neighborhood. No insulation or soundproofing in the wall so you can here the people talking in the adjacent room.
Would not mind staying here again.

Room Tip: Second floor will be better and less noisy

Thank you for selecting our resort for your stay and for this "decent" review. We appreciate your compliments of our resort and staff. Obviously, our goal is to be more than just decent so we are working to address the issues your experienced. We are awaiting new furnishings that have been ordered for the lobby, restaurant and lounge areas. I have also passed onto our engineering department to address the bath fixtures and noise. We have just completed remodeling our Presidential and four Canyon suites. The Presidential Suite is two stories with capacity to connect to four adjoining guest rooms, with its own private pool. The Canyon suites have fireplaces, ample space, all with new furnishings. I do hope you will return and see the continued progress we are making throughout the resort.
