“Could use some refurbishing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2008

We stayed at the Bear for two nights recently. The check-in was friendly if not very knowledgeable. The property is older and could use an upgrade. We had some concerns as our room was next to the outside door on the second floor but the room was very quiet. The beds are ok but the linens older and worn. Same with the towels. A continental breakfast is available. The food was all packaged heat in the microwave type. Fresh milk was there. The coffee was awful. The hotel was full and we had no complaints as to noise.

“Solid choice for Pinetop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2008

Booked this hotel on a last minute trip decision to ski Sunrise, other choices were sold out for the night. Apprx. 3 hr drive to Pinetop from Tempe via Rt 60. Plenty of fast food choices along main drags in Show Low and Pine top (McDonalds, Taco Bell, jack in Box, etc).

Hotel has circular drive can pull up to door, check in. Lobby area, like rest of hotel kinda outdated, but serviceable. Staff was very nice, check in quick. Drove around parked in back of hotel, up stairs, through hallway door (unlocked) to rooms. The unlocked door would be a security issue for me if I was traveling alone.

We had 2 connecting rooms at a great price, around $90 each. King had a fireplace, sofa and a second room with 2 Queen beds. Initially the connecting door between them was locked, but upon notification, they came up and unlocked within 2 minutes. The heaters are in the window - guess they are also air conditioners. The rooms were cold upon entry, but warmed up quickly.

Breakfast was continental, muffins, fruit, bulk cereal, toast, juice, coffee, oatmeal packets.

30 minute drive to Sunrise. Would certainly consider a stay again if other options were booked (Holiday Inn Express looked nice, in both Show Low and Pinetop).

“Clean And Comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2008

This was our second time at the Bear Mountain Inn and will probably stay there again next weekend. We really love having the fireplace in our room. The king size bed is very comfortable. Just a couple of small problems, nothing that is a deal breaker. They do have a problem with the stairs...(they really should fix it before someone gets hurt). The sofa sleeper looks dirty and probably should be replaced. We didnt use the sleeper so it doesnt really bother me that much. We like the indoor hot tub and use it every time we go. Overall we like staying there, its clean and comfortable.

“Just OK, but watch out for the stairs.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2007

The good news is the rooms are large, include a fireplace, free internet and a very basic breakfast. However the outside stairs were crumbling cement and a safety hazard. The sofa sleeper looked dirty, smelled bad, and was uncomfortable to sit on. The bedding was clean and the bed was comfortable.

They were replacing the flooring in the rooms, so I hope they get new furniture and fix those scary stairs.

I asked for a room in the back, and it was very quiet. The front desk was very helpful and friendly.

For the most part, it was an average stay.

“Very nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2007

I had read a review on this motel that was not exactly flattering, so I was a little unhappy about having been booked there, but when we arrived, i was very pleasantly surprised. The room was large and had a real fireplace, all ready to set a match to. It was very clean and had a comfortable king size bed. The people at the front desk were very friendly and helpful and knew where to send us in our quest for a good pool table. It was a very pleasant weekend!
