I took 10 high school students to a Student Council convention and the Super 8 added to a very nice trip.
Rooms were clean and ready for us - plenty of towels, toilet paper, etc. Each room had a fridge, microwave, wireless internet (which for high school students is very important). Public computer in the lobby area. Everything worked - not one problem with appliances, toilets, showers. Beds were comfortable.
Check-in was quick and easy and all the room "keys" functioned every single time (THAT is unusual with these new electronic keys). Checkout was quick and easy, too, and the staff was most accommodating.
Some of my students used the spa and reported a good experience. Nobody used the pool so I can't comment on that.
Complimentary continental breakfast: coffee, tea, juices, muffins, bagels and cream cheese, yogurt, cereal. It was ready at the advertised time and everything was kept well stocked and the area was kept clean. TV in the breakfast room.
There are only two problem areas: 1) We were on the ground floor and the stomping around from the upper floor is pretty loud. But other high school groups were upstairs and who knows what they were doing. :) 2) Pinetop/Lakeside is a small community and if you want something to eat late at night - forget it. The first session for us ended at 10 pm and nothing was open ... no fast food place or even pizza delivery. Only one place was open but it wasn't within walking distance and our bus driver couldn't take us because he couldn't go over the legal hours for a bus driver. The kids ate junk food from the snack machines. But we learned ... and the next day we stocked up from the nearby Safeway!
I would definitely recommend the Super 8 in Pinetop/Lakeside to other travelers. It isn't the Ritz, but it's a great value (for student groups and others on a budget, this is important) and our experience there was very pleasant.
