“A very pleasant surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

I took 10 high school students to a Student Council convention and the Super 8 added to a very nice trip.

Rooms were clean and ready for us - plenty of towels, toilet paper, etc. Each room had a fridge, microwave, wireless internet (which for high school students is very important). Public computer in the lobby area. Everything worked - not one problem with appliances, toilets, showers. Beds were comfortable.

Check-in was quick and easy and all the room "keys" functioned every single time (THAT is unusual with these new electronic keys). Checkout was quick and easy, too, and the staff was most accommodating.

Some of my students used the spa and reported a good experience. Nobody used the pool so I can't comment on that.

Complimentary continental breakfast: coffee, tea, juices, muffins, bagels and cream cheese, yogurt, cereal. It was ready at the advertised time and everything was kept well stocked and the area was kept clean. TV in the breakfast room.

There are only two problem areas: 1) We were on the ground floor and the stomping around from the upper floor is pretty loud. But other high school groups were upstairs and who knows what they were doing. :) 2) Pinetop/Lakeside is a small community and if you want something to eat late at night - forget it. The first session for us ended at 10 pm and nothing was open ... no fast food place or even pizza delivery. Only one place was open but it wasn't within walking distance and our bus driver couldn't take us because he couldn't go over the legal hours for a bus driver. The kids ate junk food from the snack machines. But we learned ... and the next day we stocked up from the nearby Safeway!

I would definitely recommend the Super 8 in Pinetop/Lakeside to other travelers. It isn't the Ritz, but it's a great value (for student groups and others on a budget, this is important) and our experience there was very pleasant.

“Cheap for a reason”

My wife and I stayed here last year in Jan. in a spa suite and it was nice, clean and well kept. This year we brought our kids with us and it was not pleasant. Check in was no problem, but once in the room (we didnt stay in a spa suite this time) it was obvious things had gone downhill at this hotel. There were pieces of plaster missing on the walls, they didnt turn on the heat in the room and you could see your breath inside it was so cold. The carpet was stained, worn and frayed. The toilets were so shallow you had to lift your backside of the seat to keep from touching water if you know what I mean. We went out to eat and by the time we got back and ready for bed, we realized the sheets were paper thin and we didnt even think about using the blankets or bedspreads, which upon further inspection were stained and frayed as well. The sheets in one of the beds were torn in several spots. We tried to rectify this with the front desk, but she didnt speak enough english to get my point across. In spite of all this we decided to check out the spa and indoor pool. The spa quit working after about 15 minutes and the pool was cold. Not to mention the huge chunks of plaster missing from each. Then there was the sickening smell of East Indian food which resinated throughout the whole hotel and I am sure it the same thing others smelled in this hotel. As we were checking out, a maintainence crew parked in the sallyport blocking the front door access which caused us to walk around it in the ice/snow filled parking lot to our car. They list a fitness room as an amenity, well it consisted of a 1980's rowing maching and a very cheap treadmill. The breakfast bar was actually ok, as was the supply of hot water, which you will need just to feel clean after sleeping in this place!

“This is the place in Pinetop!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

We arrived with 13 teenage boys (baseball team) and 26 adults, we had 14 rooms, the owner/manager, Sosa, was the best. He allowed all of our kids to hang out in the lobby, to play outside, on the property, and he also was really interested in how they were doing throughout their tournament. He allowed us to use his grill and take up all his parking lot while we all barbecued outside. He was very accommodating to all of our needs and was available to us 24/7 with a smile. We would and will stay here again and again, as long as Sosa is there!!! By the way, the rooms were clean and the towels were fresh.

“Keep Driving!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2010

This is a AAA rated hotel but obviously they have not visited lately. When you walk in the door your are immediately stuck with a grossly strong smell of urine in the carpets. It doesn't get much better in the hallways. The pool and spa are filthy, needing repair and cleaning. Someone needs to call the health department. This used to be a decent place to stay but it has gone to the dogs. If you want a good nights rest - keep driving, it's so noisy that sleeping is impossible. If you want a clean room - keep driving or take a sleeping bag. The place is a total dump, keep driving!
