My boyfriend and I routinely stay at resorts in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area when I visit Phoenix. Last weekend we stayed at the Hilton Squaw Peak. My first impression was that it seemed to be in trouble. The resort is sprawling and it seems it was quite the place in the earlier days. Although it is "nice enough" and clean, I would not choose to stay there again. The pool by the lobby was very nice but because of the economy, they closed the pool bar/restaurant. I have to wonder whether they maybe should shut down some of their many buildings and focus on some of the amenities that would attract people. The restaurant next to the huge lagoon pool was also closed. What a shame...it could have been a nice resort if there was more of a focus on these types of things. The room we had was very spacious and clean but the "balcony" ...at least they call it that...was only large enough to fit two chairs sideways facing each other. Literally about 3 feet wide with these huge concrete railings that prohibited any kind of view. Oh well...learning experience for us. We have found others in the area that are much, much nicer.
