“Great people, but not a great hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2011

I have several minor complaints about this hotel, but first let me say that I was VERY impressed with the staff - every single employee I encountered, from the front desk, to maintenance, to the bartender, even the housekeepers were extremely nice and went out of their way to address my concerns.

That said, there were several issues I had with this hotel:

- Intermittent wifi reception. The first day I arrived, the wifi worked fine, but the next three days I could not get it to work at all.
- Business center computer. Wifi wouldn't be that big of a deal if the business center was in good shape, but it was not. First, there was only 1 computer, which meant there was usually a wait just to get on (and having people wait behind you). Next, the computer was ancient - the motor sounded like a lawnmower, and the internet connection was S L O W (I would swear it was dial up). It also crashed on me once.
- The phone in my room didn't work properly - I had to unplug it and plug it back in just to get a dial tone. Not a huge deal in the cell phone age...unless you just want to talk to the front desk.
- The only stairs were for the fire escape, and there was no lobby access. This means that - even if you're only staying on the second floor - you need to wait for the (slow) elevator to get to and from your room. Not a huge deal if you're not in a hurry, but I found myself clawing the walls more than once when I was on my way out and simply forgot something back in the room. NOTE: I was told that the hotel is currently being remodeled (Jan 2011) and that this problem would be remedied in the remodel.

The location was good in that it is right on the freeway, with easy access to most of the Phoenix metro area. It's not good if your room is facing the freeway (noise), or if you're looking for things to do within walking distance (there's really nothing but a McDonald's and a Burger King nearby).

Overall, if you just need a cheap place to stay that's not horrible, you could do worse.

Thank you for your response and I would like to say that the Phoenix Police Department are actively cleaning all the surrounding areas and removing any homeless from not only our area but all over Phoenix. We are in the process of complete renovation with upgrades to all the rooms, lobby, restaurant and bar. We are under new ownership and improving daily. Thank you again for staying with us here at Holiday Inn Phoenix West.

“Charged extra $188 and guest relations advised they cannot resolve the issue”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2010

Beware staying here if you book & prepay ahead of time. We were charged $188 after the room had been paid for. Upon trying to contact the hotel directly they phone just rang continuously on several occasions and no one ever picked up. I then contacted Holiday Inn guest relations (not for the specific hotel but the generic online customer care), who first advised that I would be contacted by the above hotel directly within 48 hours. They never contacted me. Then after 2 weeks of emailing back and forth with guest relations, they advised that they could not resolve it and to contact my credit card company. Meanwhile, no one can tell me what the $188 was charged for, we stayed there only 2 nights and actually paid for 3 because we thought we would be there longer. So, this $188 dollars is on top of them getting the money from an extra night already. If you have to stay somewhere in the area I recommend ANYWHERE but the Holiday Inn as if you are overcharged you will never see that money again.

“You get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2009

Stayed here to go to Spring Training B-Ball. The hotel is right off I-10, so you are close to all the fields. The rooms are in the process of being renovated. My buddy got one with new carpet , but mine was the old style. I would suggest that you try to get a room on the 4th floor. The traffic noise is pretty loud, but i left the fan going and it drowned everything out. These are not the best rooms i've ever seen, but they are comfortable and the staff is friendly. Got ours for sixty a night, so you can't complain too much.

“Nice Hotel, Nice price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2009

We chose this hotel because it was about 10 minutes from the University of Phoenix Stadium. We had a King room on the third floor. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was friendly. There was a Micro/Frig and wireless internet. There was a balcony that you could stand on, but the view was of a busy street. There was a little traffice noise but the mild humming of the airconditioner covered it and it did not prevent us from getting a good night's rest. There are alot of places to eat in the area and a Walmart about 2 miles away. We had no problems with this hotel and would stay again if in the area.
