“What an Awesome Surprise!!!”

Because of a sudden change in itinerary we made a reservation at Canyonview Resorts Club South Mountain Preserve from a 'last minute deals' website. What a pleasant surprise. The check in was very quick and easy. The rates were unbelievably reasonable and the room was impressive. Very clean, beautifully decorated with full kitchen, bath, walkin closet, flat screen TV and a very comfy bed. The staff was very friendly and informative. We had trouble connecting to the wireless for our laptop - that appeared to be just in our room since we could connect in the office.

“Hotel/Condos' are OK - Staff are great”

We stayed here over Thanksgiving while visiting friends and family in Phoenix. Whilst the rooms leave something to be desired the staff here are excellent.

The hotel is well situated to get to most of the surrounding attractions. Although the hotel appears to be going through some kind of expansion or renovation it should be nice when finished.

I have to compliment the front desk staff. The girl that checked us in, Vicky, was so pleasant. She was helpful, gave us good information about the hotel and the surrounding areas and did everything she could to make our Thanksgiving a truly enjoyable experience. The afternoon girl was equally pleasant and helpful (sorry, I can't remember her name). If the rest of the staff are as good and committed as these girls seem to be then this place has a good future.

We will probably return next time we are in town, if the refurb work is complete.

  • Liked — Front Desk staff were so friendly and helpful
  • Disliked — Wasn't quite the finished article - still in transition from condo's to resort

“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2007

My fiance and I visted Phoenix, Arizona for 5 days but only stayed in Canyonview for two nights. This villa made our vacation so much more enjoyable. It was the cheapest price from any other hotel on Orbitz and we got more than I'm sure we would have from a franchise hotel. The rooms are extremely spacious, very clean, and furnished beautifully. We got our own garage to park our car in, which was nice when packing and unpacking our luggage, etc. The pool is small but beautiful. The lobby has a flat screen television, computer access and a helpful staff. Although this hotel is somewhat off the beaten path, it's a perfect choice for your Arizona vacation.

“Great price for a great condo”

My husband &I just got back from an anniversary trip to the Grand Canyon. On our way through,we stayed for a couple days in Phoenix at the Canyonview Resort. We were very impressed with this condo community. We paid around $85/night for our mid-week stay. The condo was a 1bdrm with a modern decor that included a 4 person table, a full kitchen (including all necessary cooking utensils, toaster, dishes, etc), walk in closet, plasma t.v., and nice bathroom. Everything was very clean and newly renovated. We felt like it was a bargain. Most of the hotels in or around Phoenix are at least $85/night and you don't get this much room, extras or a garage! We loved having the garage. The most impressive part was the hotel staff. I admittedly hadn't done much research on places to eat around Tempe (where we were staying) so I asked when we checked in. The very nice young lady said "would you like me to do some research for you and print out maps?" I was shocked! I couldn't believe she'd go so above and beyond. We said YES! Within 10 minutes, she called the room to say our information was ready. She had chosen 2-3 breakfast places based on the criteria I gave her and even printed out maps to each. It was so helpful! The least impressive part was the smell and the bed linens. To walk into a condo that looks that nice, it was disappointing to sink into a bed with scratchy minimal thread count sheeets. I'll agree with the other reviewer that said it's obvious they did the renovations on the "cheap." The cabinets had just been painted instead of putting in new, modern cabinets. The linens hadn't been upgraded and there was a hole in the wall that wasn't patched. The smell was horrendous. Everytime we walked in, it smelled like a porta-potty! We would've complained or been moved to a new room if we were staying longer. Still, considering everything, we would stay there again. It's especially a great bargain for FAMILIES who are looking to save a little money by eating in.

“Very Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2007

Although I realise they are in the process of upgrading the property, I would NEVER visit there again. The buildings were lovely, spacious rooms but the renovations had been done "on the cheap" - eg: cheap MDF cupboard doors and interiors that are hard for housekeeping to keep clean, mismatched crockery and bent cutlery, a waste disposal that didn't work and most of all, when we went to use the oven (which was all stained and marked on the top - so obviously had not been replaced) it was absolutely filthy inside. The location of the property was terrible (in the middle of offices and places of work). There were very little evening activities and if one was interested in something such as dreamcatcher making - or the like - you had to sign up for it 48 hours in advance. On vacation, I don't always know what I'm doing or where I'm going to be 48 hours in advance. So, even although Aristar is changing it's name and "upgrading" to Mountainview, it hasn't upgraded it's accommodations as expected. Very disappointing!!
