Following the signs for ‘reception’ was rather confusing, but at least my sister and I saw some of the property before we could park near the front desk. At check-in were only young people and, although the young girl was friendly, I didn’t get automatically an upgrade for being Diamond HHonors! I find it always less when I have to ask for it, especially in a Hilton hotel.
After some arguments (no, they were not sold out as I had been told, I had checked the Internet that morning and all rooms were still available), I got not exactly an upgrade, but could choose a suite with falls view. It was quiet in the resort and we could park next to our room. The falls are behind and could not be seen from our window, but we had a view from our balcony on a large pool site.
The suite is great, it has a living room with working desk and chair, sofa and easy chairs, a bathroom with the sink outside and a bedroom of a proper size with a balcony. All furniture was good, the carpet clean and the sheets and towels were of good quality. In the room we also had a Lavazzo coffeemaker and a mini-bar, from which we took some items out to store our own things (and placed them all back when we left).
It was very quiet at the major pool area and we had a nice and relaxing afternoon. There are plenty of sun beds to choose from and enough towels were available.
In the evening we called the shuttle bus and had to wait about 10 minutes before we were picked up. We wanted to have a drink in the Pointe of View bar to see the magnificent view, but unfortunately, this location was not open for the public that evening, due to a private party. We found Pointe of View restaurant too expensive to have dinner so we had to call the shuttle again to bring us to the other restaurant Pointe in Time. The food in this restaurant was excellent and reasonable priced, we made a good choice. We walked back up a hill to our suite and my sister and I didn’t find that hard to do.
For my Diamond Status I was given two vouchers for breakfast at Pointe in Time. This is one of the very few Hiltons that don’t have a breakfast buffet. The items are very pricey, be also aware that as soon you sit on your table, a waitress comes with coffee and juice. Accepting this will mean that half of the amount on your voucher is already taken! We found this out when we got the bill and made a protest. Being a Diamond Member for some years with 40-60 stays annually, I never ever had to pay in any other Hilton and there I had much and much more to choose from than here.
Some days after our stay I found out that they had put an extra amount off my AMEX account. Since I couldn’t find an e-mail address of this hotel I wrote to the HHonors desk if they could find out why they charged me this amount. After some time I got a message that it was for items of the mini-bar. We didn’t use anything, so I wrote back, that we didn’t take anything out of the fridge, that we only rearranged the setting because we had own items in during our stay. Then I got a message that the amount would be taken of my account and so it did.
Because it was a quiet period we paid about 100 US plus tax for staying in this hotel. Although I had some remarks, I would go again without any doubts if the rates of other Hiltons in the Phoenix area are on the high side and are very competitive here again. The setting is nice, the suite spacious, we had a good night sleep and our stay was further enjoyable.
