“Arizona Grand Resort - don't belive the bad reviews”

I was in the travel industry for 20 years. I have visited many many hotels and resorts. I read some of the reviews before we booked and was a bit hesitant but we decided to stay there and see for ourselves. The pictures on the web site are exactly like the resort. The resort, grounds, golf course and spa is one of my favorite places I have ever stayed. Don't believe the people that have written bad reviews, we found nothing to complain about. Enjoy!!!
We will be staying here from now on when we travel to Phoenix. The water park was closed when were where there (Jan 2012) which we actually liked because it was really quiet and relaxing. They have outdoor fire pits going 24 hrs a day and that is a really relaxing place to sit and meet other guests.

Dear cycle6898,

Thank you choosing to stay at Arizona Grand Resort and for sharing your fantastic experience with us and fellow travelers. We understand it can be confusing to select the perfect spot for a getaway, especially when every resort seems to have a mix of positive and negative reviews. “I definitaly want to go back to Phoenix but not the AGR.”

Being a business traveler, I have become accustomed to certain amenities found in newer or remodeled hotels. My room was a spacious suite. The furnishings in the living area were outdated and not very comfortable. No flat screen TV's in this joint! The faucet in the bathtub dripped constantly. The wet bar, which I was told I had access to, was locked and I was not given a key (not the biggest deal but still noteworthy).

The grounds are huge and well kept! I found the citrus trees on the site charming. The resort is huge and tries to accommodate their guests by offering chauffeured golf carts to drive you to and from locations on the resort. But, the waits were sometimes lengthy.

The conference center was very nice. No complaints here. And the staff were very friendly and helpful.

One of the attributes of this resort that I was most excited about was it's proximity to the nature preserve and it's hiking trails. A friend and I attempted a hike but found the directions to the trail confusing and ended up going for a walk along the street instead. :(

I tried to take advantage of the onsite spa so I scheduled a massage. Because of changing schedules I was forced to cancel my appointment. What they failed to tell me upon scheduling was that there was a $40 cancellation fee. If you call to cancel within 12 hrs of your appointment you're charged $40! Advanced notice would have been nice!

“Beautiful setting but in need of makeover”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This resort came highly recommended but fell short in many areas.
The complex I was in (Sedona) was very far from the reception and fitness center.
The suites are decent size but bathroom cramped with chipped porcelain. Bathtub drains were very slow and probably clogged. Maintenence was told but never resolved. Bedroom TV older and remote quit working. The lighting in the catwalk to get access to room was very dark and there was no lighting near my door.
Best bet is Camelback complex which is closer to everything and ask if the room has been upgraded. Staff assitstance was patchy.
This is such a beautiful setting and good location near AZ Mills outlet mall and many chain restuarants.

Dear a p,

Thank you for choosing Arizona Grand Resort for your business trip and for sharing your recent experience with fellow travelers. I am happy to see that you enjoyed our prime location adjacent to South Mountain Preserve and hope you were able to take advantage of the complimentary shuttle to Arizona Mills Mall. While your experience with the guest room is not typical, it is very helpful for our management team to understand the specifics of your stay. For your next visit you may want to consider a Villa Guest Room, located near the resort lobby and fitness center. If your business travels bring you back to Phoenix, I hope we are able to welcome you back to Arizona Grand Resort.

Best regards,

Paul Gray

“Okay resort”

I stayed at this resort for an international meeting. The place is huge, and not nearby anywhere at walking distance, so if you want to eat at a place that is not the expensive restaurants on the premises, you need to have a car. The same goes is you want to do some shopping (with the exception of a Fry's electronics across the street). The place has very impressive grounds, water park and golf course. The rooms seemed spacious, comfortable and clean, although the buildings seemed in need of urgent updates. Be prepared to pay for extras like WiFi and breakfast.

I am happy to see that you enjoyed your spacious suite and were able to experience the Arizona Grand Golf Course and take in the 7-acre Oasis Water Park during your stay. For easy shopping and dining options many of our guests take advantage of the complimentary shuttle to Arizona Mills Mall, where you can find a large variety of restaurants, over 180 stores and an IMAX movie theatre. “Beautiful buildings and surroundings; great staff”

Very striking venue, with huge grounds; lovely decor and very relaxed atmosphere where we quickly felt very relaxed. Rooms quiet spacious with good facilities - though the TVs are cathode-ray museum-pieces with pretty poor reception ! Extras like wi-fi, on-demand films and breakfast were pricey - was glad I was on a business trip, so was shielded from the impact of these....

Staff generally very friendly, esp. in the bar and coffee shop. They also helped us deal with hire-car arrangements, via their business link with Enterprise, which saved us bother at the airport.

Food for routine meals was, well, routine, but at the special receptions was pretty good. Overall, perfectly good if a little pricey.
