I travelled with 1 other medical student from Perth, Australia and spent our month staying at the Outrigger Hotel along with 2 students from London and other guests travelling in Samoa. The facilities were fantastic - pool, kitchen, BBQ, reasonably priced car hire to explore both main islands, and laundry facilities. The rooms were larger, and shared facilities very clean. We had no need for airconditioning, a fan was adequate and prices kept down by offering a discount for medical students staying for an extended time period.
Claus and his staff were very warm and welcoming and the breakfasts were a great way to start the day. It was close enough to Apia to walk (15-20 min each way) and within easy walking distance of local supermarkets (less than 5 min). The walk to the hospital was also less than 5 minutes. Many other students stayed at Tatiana's, which is the only accomodation listed by the medical school in the acceptance letter - however it was worth looking further... based on our experience at Outrigger I would not have stayed anywhere else, it was fantastic.
Thankyou again Outrigger for making our month in Samoa a memorable and amazing experience! I hope many more medical students (and other travellers) get to experience this hotel in the near and distant future.
