We are from the U.S. and needed to stay in the Boyaca region for more than two weeks. A friend from Bogota recommended the Hotel Sochagota saying it was a wonderful hotel known for its service and thermal pool. She could not have been more correct.
- It is a beautiful and clean hotel with great rooms overlooking a beautiful lake. We stayed in one of the cabanas and were extremely happy with the room's privacy, large size (living room, two bedrooms, two baths - could sleep eight with its two double beds and four bunkbeds), balcony overlooking the lake, fireplace, and private small pool (about twice the size of a normal jacuzzi, the pool was filled with the same thermal water as in the hotel's large pool).
- The food in the hotel's restaurant was great. We ate most of our meals in the restaurant or with room service and were never disappointed with the quality.
- The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly. Since we stayed for so long, we got to know many of the staff and found them to be totally dedicated to helping their guests (e.g. arranging cab rides to the nearby city of Paipa, lighting the room's fireplace, helping with internet access). During our stay, we needed to make a trip to Bogota (about three hours away) and the staff arranged for our transportation.
- The hotel had a lot of things to do, even for our children (aged 11 and 13): horseback riding, tennis and basketball courts, bicycles available to use, playground, and (the best) the thermal pool. It's an olympic-sized pool that is filled with hot water from a thermal spring. The water has a lot of minerals in it and was refreshing for skin (our friend from Bogota told us people from all over Colombia go to the hotel to stay in the pool). Being there for more than two weeks, we noticed the hotel got much more crowded on weekends. It was relatively empty during the weekdays, but crowded on the weekends.
- The town of Paipa is about two miles away (easily accessible on one of the bikes or by cab) and is a nice little town with a small shopping district and some restaurants. The surrounding area is beautiful - small mountains, a lake, trees.
We could not have been happier with the hotel. We were a little nervous going to Colombia for the first time, but are looking forward to going back and spending more time at the Hotel Sochagota.
