“This Hotel is not up to standart at all”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

The location of the Hotel is good and the view is magnificent, thats more or less the best what i can tell about it. The reception should be more friendly and open for special requests from their customers. The rooms had there best days long ago and you can smell the smoke (non smoking rooms where requested). The attraction, hot springs, are crowded and dirty. The breakfast is way below standard (they claim 4 star Hotel) even for Colombia this is not more than 2 stars. The worst is if you try to check out. For foreigners they say that there is no vacation Tax of 10%, they had no idea what we where talking about, even the manager was unaware of this statement made on their internet page, but they refused to take it of the bill! Unbelievable ignorant and unfriendly. There are much better options to stay at this lake!

“A relaxing place”

I wanted to celebrate my 13rd wedding anniversary in a romantic place but also including a spa so I picked this hotel to surprise my wife. Hotel is located in a very great place looking at the Sochagota lake, we took a cabin with includes master bedroom with double bed and private bathroom, a second room with place for four, second bathroom, living room with fireplace and balcony. The nicest thing is the private pool you can fill out with hot thermal water and relax completely.
Hotel was built 40 years ago so something looks outdated but those were a concern for us. Don't forget visit the spa

“Breathtaking...amazing...you must stay here!!”

My step-father and his family are from Bogota which is only a few hours away from Paipa and they highly recommended a weekend there. I did a search here on TripAdvisor.com and fell in love with Hotel Sochagota via the internet, then we decided to take a bus from the capital to Paipa. In person it is simply breathtaking and amazing!! The town itself is very quaint and safe, but the hotel is out of this world! It is situated right on Lake Sochagota which allows you spectacular views! The hotel is very clean and well-maintained. The staff was more than perfect and helpful, they truly went out of their way so that you would experience the hotel and the town itself to it's fullest. They even referred us to a taxi driver who took us on a tour of the town. Honestly, you don't even need to leave the hotel if you choose not to with all the amenities they offer. From water sports to bike riding to horseback riding, not to mention what they are known for, their thermal pools!!! And if you want to pay a little extra, you can pamper yourself with one of their amazing spa treatments which I did! They really cater to their guests! The only thing I didn't like too much was that the rooms don't have air conditioning and if you live in the United States, that's something you have to get used to. Other than that, it's a must see! Last note, the price for the stay was so inexpensive for everything they offered!

“A wonderful experience and hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2010

We are from the U.S. and needed to stay in the Boyaca region for more than two weeks. A friend from Bogota recommended the Hotel Sochagota saying it was a wonderful hotel known for its service and thermal pool. She could not have been more correct.

- It is a beautiful and clean hotel with great rooms overlooking a beautiful lake. We stayed in one of the cabanas and were extremely happy with the room's privacy, large size (living room, two bedrooms, two baths - could sleep eight with its two double beds and four bunkbeds), balcony overlooking the lake, fireplace, and private small pool (about twice the size of a normal jacuzzi, the pool was filled with the same thermal water as in the hotel's large pool).
- The food in the hotel's restaurant was great. We ate most of our meals in the restaurant or with room service and were never disappointed with the quality.
- The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly. Since we stayed for so long, we got to know many of the staff and found them to be totally dedicated to helping their guests (e.g. arranging cab rides to the nearby city of Paipa, lighting the room's fireplace, helping with internet access). During our stay, we needed to make a trip to Bogota (about three hours away) and the staff arranged for our transportation.
- The hotel had a lot of things to do, even for our children (aged 11 and 13): horseback riding, tennis and basketball courts, bicycles available to use, playground, and (the best) the thermal pool. It's an olympic-sized pool that is filled with hot water from a thermal spring. The water has a lot of minerals in it and was refreshing for skin (our friend from Bogota told us people from all over Colombia go to the hotel to stay in the pool). Being there for more than two weeks, we noticed the hotel got much more crowded on weekends. It was relatively empty during the weekdays, but crowded on the weekends.
- The town of Paipa is about two miles away (easily accessible on one of the bikes or by cab) and is a nice little town with a small shopping district and some restaurants. The surrounding area is beautiful - small mountains, a lake, trees.

We could not have been happier with the hotel. We were a little nervous going to Colombia for the first time, but are looking forward to going back and spending more time at the Hotel Sochagota.

“one of the best”

My husband and I stayed at Sochagota and loved it. We didn't do a lot of research at area hotels but think we found the best. It was romantic, clean, friendly and helpful staff. We had a balcony overlooking the lake. We loved the thermal pool. We made good use of the tennis court too. We are fluent in Spanish, I dont' know if there would be a language barrier for other travellers.
