“Worth it for the view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in January 2012. Unfortunately our booking.com reservation didn't show up on the hotel's system but the manager who speaks excellent English sorted the problem straight away and gave us a room with a wonderful view as it was our honeymoon. If you don't have a car, you have to rely on taxis which is a bit of a pain, but they're cheap, about €4 to the town centre. (I didn't see a shuttle bus) Breakfast is ok and the bar food is good. Free wifi is a big plus. Lovely french restaurant across from the hotel. It is quiet here so depends on what you're looking for. Very comfy beds

“Overpriced - Many Cons - Hidden Surprises”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2007

The Hotel is at the top of a mountain overlooking the city of Ushuaia. Rooms are big enough, and well heated. Beds are good, and so are the toilets. Wi-fi access is available for no charge.

And the good parts stop there.

There are many cons.
1. Location is poor; you are away from the city and must take a taxi to come and go. Shuttle buses are very infrequent and unreliable.

2. TV; Only a few channels available in a country with one of the highest cable TV penetration rates in the world. Not a single English speaking channel.

3. Breakfast: Extremely poor by a 2 star standard. No fruit, no toasted bread available, no fresh bread, undrinkable watery juices, really substandard.

4. Check out: They fixed it, arbitrarily and against all international standards, at 10 (TEN) AM. One more minute and you are compelled to pay 50% extra. That is unacceptable and probably confiscatory. What if you had a late night (not my case) and want to have a sleep over until 11 a.m. Not uncommon in a vacation.

5. Restaurant food; Avoid; expensive and uneatable. Move on.

At USD$189 per night the hotel is outrageously expensive for what it offers. Avoid, or beware.

“Nice views, fair service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2007

I booked this hotel online as it was billed as a 4 star hotel directly in Glacier Martiel. I stayed 3 nights and had a fair experience overall.

Pros:
-Gorgeous mountain location with lovely views from all sides. The hotel is one of the highest up on Glacier Martial. We stayed in one of the back rooms that had direct views of the mountain peak. It was idyliic- we saw wild horses running through the mountain wilderness and the snowcapped mountain peak. The vista from the front side of the hotel is expansive and stunning.
-Excellent cleaning staff

Cons:
-Largely unhelpful front desk I was there during the holidays when many sights were closed. The desk was unaware of changes in the schedules for major sights and were unwilling to offer help in finding out. There was little assistance in booking excursions (though dont worry about this-- you can easily book these yourself once you get there) and generally little knowledge of the area. On the whole, the front desk added little to the experience, and were not on a par expected for a 4 star level hotel. FYI, staff members speak minimal English, if this is an issue for you.
-The location, while beautiful, is accessible only by taxi or shuttle. The hotel shuttle runs only 4 times per day so you have to factor in multiple taxi rides to the city per day, since there are really no restaurants or other activities on the mountain itself. Fares are pretty affordable (approx 10-12 pesos one way), but it can be hard to find a taxi on the street at night.
