My wife and I stayed at the Hostal del Bosque for 5 nights in November 2005. We had a whole apartment to ourselves in this good economy hotel. It is well situated, about 6 or 7 blocks above the main streets -a 5 to 10 minute walk from great pubs and parilla restaurants. It is not suitable for anyone with walking problems as the hill is steep and the pavements are full of holes! However, I would recommend this hotel primarily for its location, its cleanliness and the size of the apartments. Although the setting is unattractive (unlike some grander hotels outside of town) it is convenient for the town, including the tourist harbour for boat trips, and minibuses to nearby locations. We loved Ushuaia . The cable car to the Martial Glacier and a boat trip to the penguin colony are both worthwhile; although the latter is a long ride (6 hours there and back) and expensive, it is on a good sturdy and stable catamaran, with restaurant facilities. The highlight of Ushuaia is surely the fabulously beautiful Tierra del Fuego National Park- which must be visited on a clear dry day! We were lucky- we had warm subshine- but don't rely on it!
