I stayed in this hostel in April 2008 and I have to admit that I really loved it. You feel at home from the moment you step in this colourful house. I've been to many hostels and usually the minus is that they have a hospital look with so many rules that you feel observed at all times and not comfortable. In the case of Hostel Cruz del Sur this is not true. Relaxation reigns!! You can cook your own food at all times(they have a very well equipped kitchen), hang out in the reading room(they have free internet access and wi-fi that works also in the rooms) , and the mattresses are really comfy.The people working there are really helpful and friendly and go always an extra mile to help you with everything you need. The hostel is also very well located. They close the reception late at night but guests are always allowed in with a security code that they are given upon check-in

This hostel is located about a 8 minute walk from the main tourist information centre in the middle of town. Ushuaia is very hilly so the walk is a little uphill.

The owner - Lucca is very friendly and helpful. He speaks fluent Spanish, Italian and English.

The hostel has quite a homely feeling about it. There are photos, postcards and travel memorabilia posted all over the walls.

The rooms are either 4 bed or 6 bed bunks. The 6 bed rooms are located downstairs and are much quieter than the 4 bed rooms upstairs (they are next to the kitchen, dining and loungerooms). I found that the 4 bed dorms were better as they were airy and had a good view over Ushuaia. There are plenty of lockers which are big enough for rucksacks.

Breakfast is provided free of charge consisting of bread, toast and jam and tea/coffee.

The supermarket is 5 minutes walk and there are numerous laundry places nearby (they did not offer in house laundry when we were there). There is free wifi and internet with a good connection speed.

There is no curfew but the door is accessed via a code so it is secure.

Overall a great relaxing place to stay at in Ushuaia.
