Hosteria Meulen is just the same as on the pictures, antique furniture, close to Argentino lake and very classy decorated. But it is not by the lake, almost 800 m far from it and there are a couple of hotels in the same area which are much more closer even by the lake.
I am passionate with historical styled places and that place stimulated me very much. As soon as you step in the hotel, it is very warm it is impossible to get cold even in the bathroom, heating is great.
They gave us a room without lakeview but it didnt bother us, sleeping quality and room space was very good. Bathroom was small but very clean, decoration of the room was perfect with the antique looking furniture.
You can walk to Argentino lake which take 5-6 minutes, walking city centre is 15-20 minutes. If you want, there is a free shuttle service of hotel, which we used almost every night to return back from city centre.
El Calafate was breathtaking with perito moreno glacier trekking and zipline excursion. Also the restaurants, patagonian type lamb and wine was just perfect.
We didn't eat in the restaurant because of the breakfast. It is the only thing i didnt like about Meulen, breakfast was poor and definetly not tasty. I asked for fresh croissant because they serve it cold and almost stale. In return, the waitress brought me heated 3 croissant but one of them was burned, so i gave them to the cute, fat, black dog which is just outside of the hotel everyday. We stayed 4 nights there and breakfast was the same.
If they gave a richer range of breakfast and fresh croissant it would make more pleased guests and maybe more guests for their restaurant because we didnt even think about eating dinner there after the horrible breakfast experience.
I would stay somewhere else, a closer hotel to the lake or a hotel in the centre if i go back to El Calafate, but if you dont care about the breakfast and like the other facilities of the hotel it would be good choice.
