“great view and very nice staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Hotel is located a bit outside of the city center but offers twice daily free shuttle service to/from downtown. All tours to the national parc come and pick you up and you don't really need a car or taxi. In general you are one of the first ones to be picked up for the bus tours due to the location of the hotel. Beautiful view over lake Argentina and the laguna Nimez and the flamingos.
Rooms are very nice with individual antique furnitures.
Beds are very comfortable and the rooms very clean.
Some rooms are a bit loud because the doors a not very thick. The tours usually start early so there is some noise early in the morning and if you don't plan taking a tour and you want to sleep, try to get a room away from the reception area.
Staff is very helpful and just great, a very special thank you to Paula and Pamela.
Breakfast has a good variety and choice don't know why but they have a tendency to burn the croissants and toasts. The omelet we had one evening was also more on the dark side.

“Stunning views over laguna nimez”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011 via mobile

The hotel is situated about half an hrs walk outside the town. It offers a taxi service twice a day into town plus all tours pick up fm hotels. Its views are amazing and are worth the walk.

The rooms are lovely - a little quirky with lovely old furniture but with modern bathrooms. The view from our bedroom was spectacular and our room was very spacious.

Reception staff are helpful and speak english.

Good value for money.

La barricas d enopio restaurant does really excellent steaks or for good pizza and lasagne try lechuzita.

There is a shuttle bus (VES patagonia) from the airport which will take u to ur hotel for 33 arg dollars (circa 5 pounds).

“Nice Hotel,comfortable quiet rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

We went with some friends who recommended the hotel as have been there before. We got there and it looks like a grand house and with wonderful, large rooms, very individual, old and charming furniture and details. Plus: Minibar and wine included in rooms, internet and shuttle service to the downtown. - The whole atmosphere is very homey and Ralph Lauren’s style. The rooms are incredible, each of them different.
The staff extremely helpful, charming and willing to make the best of our stay.

“Met all my expectations but the breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

Hosteria Meulen is just the same as on the pictures, antique furniture, close to Argentino lake and very classy decorated. But it is not by the lake, almost 800 m far from it and there are a couple of hotels in the same area which are much more closer even by the lake.

I am passionate with historical styled places and that place stimulated me very much. As soon as you step in the hotel, it is very warm it is impossible to get cold even in the bathroom, heating is great.

They gave us a room without lakeview but it didnt bother us, sleeping quality and room space was very good. Bathroom was small but very clean, decoration of the room was perfect with the antique looking furniture.

You can walk to Argentino lake which take 5-6 minutes, walking city centre is 15-20 minutes. If you want, there is a free shuttle service of hotel, which we used almost every night to return back from city centre.

El Calafate was breathtaking with perito moreno glacier trekking and zipline excursion. Also the restaurants, patagonian type lamb and wine was just perfect.

We didn't eat in the restaurant because of the breakfast. It is the only thing i didnt like about Meulen, breakfast was poor and definetly not tasty. I asked for fresh croissant because they serve it cold and almost stale. In return, the waitress brought me heated 3 croissant but one of them was burned, so i gave them to the cute, fat, black dog which is just outside of the hotel everyday. We stayed 4 nights there and breakfast was the same.

If they gave a richer range of breakfast and fresh croissant it would make more pleased guests and maybe more guests for their restaurant because we didnt even think about eating dinner there after the horrible breakfast experience.

I would stay somewhere else, a closer hotel to the lake or a hotel in the centre if i go back to El Calafate, but if you dont care about the breakfast and like the other facilities of the hotel it would be good choice.

“Very very good: deserves a place in the top 5 of El Calafate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2010

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights in november and loved it! It's not a very big hotel and that's what we like.
Yes, you do need to follow a gravelroad and it's a bit further from the center of El Calafate, but taxis are cheap (and 5-10 min. max.) and walking is only about 20 minutes.
We did't have dinner in the hotel, but is does provide it. The breakfast was okay, nothing special but enough as it is in almost everywhere we've stayed in Argentina.
The hotel is decorated with old antique furniture and we liked that very much. The hotel has a very good feel.
The rooms were absolutely great: we had a double with lakeview. It was very big and very clean. Enough space to put your belongings. The bed was also very big and slept great. The bathroom was a bit smal, but very clean, No sticky showercurtain here, but a sliding glass door. The light in the shower itself was a bit dark. In the rest of the bathroom it was fine.
The only 2 cons of the room were the showerlight and also the heating. The heating is arranged centrally, so you can not put the heating in your room down or up if you wish. The first 2 nights the room was quit warm and we only had 2 small windows we could open and this wasn't enough to drop the temperature a bit and make it more pleasant. The other 4 nights the heating was just fine.`
We heard some noises from other guests, but it wasn't very loud or annoying.
We also absolutely loved the dog Negrita who came running everytime we called her and lay down on her back to let you pet her belly.
The service in the hotel was great: the owner as well as the 3 female staffmembers (Magdalena, Natalie and ?) were very friendly and helpfull, They booked us every tour and restaurant we wanted and didn't have to arrange anything ourselves.
This hotel absolutely deservers a much higher place on Tripadvisor than where it's at right now!
