During our first visit to Bariloche in '08, we stayed at another 3* hotel on the main street of St. Martin. While walking around, we discovered the Cacique Inacayal which had just opened but wasn't totally completed. When we knew we were coming back, we insisted with our travel agent that we wanted to stay in this hotel as it's directly on the lake. And we're so glad we insisted! The weather was perfect for volcano viewing, and the views across the lake are fantastic. Our room was directly on the lake (superior, corner room) -- we could hear the waves pounding on the shore -- yes, the lake was very rough. The only problem: the terrace for the bar area was directly above our room and the wrought iron furniture made a racket. My husband went onto the terrace the next day and turned all the chairs over onto their side (no one could sit outside as it was too breezy), and that night we slept.
The tub is a high step up so just be careful!
The breakfast buffet was more than satisfactory. There was a Grand Circle tour group there at the same time so it was crowded, but service was more than adequate. It's about a 10 min. walk to the center of town.
