“Nice hotel in a pretty place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights 5 days apart. First stay was in one of the lower cabins. Clean and quaint but very small and paper thin walls! Second night we told them that we would prefer a room in the main building and we got a very large room at the front for a small upgrade price. Staff were very helpful on both occasions. Very nice restaurant. Way too far to walk into town and the road is quite narrow and dangerous anyway but taxi fare is only a couple of dollars. Unfortunately Bariloche is still suffering badly from the effects of the Chilean volcano with ash everywhere and the tourist industry has been decimated and so people were extremely grateful that we even came and did not cancel. When we stayed the airport was still closed and you had to fly into Esquel which is a 4 hour bus ride away.

“Lake view room was hot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The lake view rooms face west so they get the afternoon sun. The hotel has no air conditioning and no fans. We left our curtains open to get whatever ventilation we could. The hotel lights then make the room very bright. Fortunately, I travel with eye shades.

Our room was nice and large, but the heat was a major negative in terms of sleeping.

The hotel is 1.7 km from downtown. The walk is on the unpaved shoulder of a busy road.

When we asked the front desk for a recommendation for a light dinner, all we were told was to go downtown and walk around. Instead we opted to eat in the bar the two nights we were there. The bar menu is short, but good. The bartender provided good service.

Room Tip: If you are there when the weather is hot, ask for a room that faces away from the lake.

“Enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed in this hotel twice, on the way to and the way back from the crossing into Chile, this hotel delivers a very high standard of customer service which I guess is expectedby the many, more mature, American guests that were staying here. We stored a case here as we knew we were returning not only was this not an issue the bag was actually in the room waiting for us when we returned.
The 20 minute walk into town on the busy road is not the most pleasant especially when the wind got up and picked up volcanic ash (January 2012.... the ash was a minor inconvenience but we were lucky that a drop of rain cleared the air overnight).
We decided to eat in the restaurant the food was very good and the view from restaurant, bar, spa are all breathtaking accross the lake.
Spa has to be tried, we had a go in the hot tub, steam room, jacuzzi.... book the hot tub and enjoy the view.
The rooms are described as having a forest view, this is a slight exageration!! although room was good size, clean and modern with a huge bed and the fact you are out of town the only noise you hear is the sprinklers as they come on in the evening.
Breakfast is plentiful and presented very nicely.

“Great views!”

We stayed here on an OAT trip and fully enjoyed it. The views from the upper rooms are spectacular. Only drawback is that the walk into town is about 20 minutes on a very busy, noisy road. Taxis are cheap tho', so they are a better bet.

“pleasant stay at Villa Huinid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Villa Huinid made a very nice base for our stay in Bariloche.
The hotel is located just enough out of Bariloche and set back from the main road. This makes for a quiet location on a hill with an excellent view of the lake.
The staff was very friendly across the board, from check in to check out, the spa staff, the breakfast folks and the bar staff.
The included breakfast was pretty much over the top each day. I enjoyed poached pears every morning with the varied assortment of fresh fruits, cheeses, baked goods, juices, coffee and tea selection.

Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable.

The gym was adequate. Equipment a bit dated, but it sufficed.

Make sure you reserve the hot tub room. It is nice to take in the view from the tub. We did not know that a reservation was required when we just walked in and plopped ourselves in the first time. No one was rude or anything and we did not put anyone else out. We just did not know the policy. The staff seemed almost as embarrassed as we were. Future dips in the tub were not a problem.

The spa offered some happy hour discounts on packages when we were there. We took advantage of these. The quality was very good, staff nice and professional. No one minded that we were only doing discounted packages. The quality would have been worth regular price, but if you want to save a few dollars, ask if they have happy hour or any other specials.
One spa employee recommended a brew pub. I will never forget the delicious beers that night.

Same goes in the bar. After we had a massage one day, we went to the bar where the drinks were on offer for happy hour. The quality was excellent. No shorting the pour or putting in a smaller glass. We had the same drinks we enjoyed the night before....just that they were 2 for 1 the second time. The bartenders were all pleasant. Really seemed interested in our trip and wanted to ensure we were having a good time. One of the bartenders recommended a wine shop in town. Another recommended a chocolate shop in another town. Both were excellent recommendations.

Due to the location of Villa Huinid, it makes sense to have a car. It may not be the same experience if you use the bus and slog your things up the hill, or if you wait for cabs.

We booked Villa Huinid online. Took a chance after reading reviews and comparing other places. If you know you are definitely going to be in Bariloche and you know the dates, then you should book sooner rather than later. The rate went up after I booked, and continued to go up. This only was a problem when I wanted to extend our stay. The rate was more than double the original rate.
