Gloriously situated outside the din of Bariloche, this is a world renowned setting and rightfully so. The lodge is on a promontory with beautiful outside spaces. The restaurants have stunning views. If you want the hustle of a tourist town, this is not the location for you, although you can hire a driver or taxi easily to go into town. But if you want to soak in the beauty of the Lake District, select Llao Llao.

BTW, if you are thinking of taking the Lake Crossing over the Andes into Chile, or vice versa from Puerto Varas to Bariloche, skip it. In all my years of travel, it has to be the most mind-numbing experience in memory. Bus/boat/bus/boat/bus/boat of lakes with foliage down to the waters' edge: 12 hours of it. If you want the lake experience, have Llao Llao book a 3 hour trip on the lovely, large Nahuel Huapi Lake nearby.

My wife and I visited Llao Llao in Bariloche in December, 2007. The scenery all around was just spectacular. This hotel has a prime spot... I sincerely recommend you stay here. They have a half-outdoor / half-indoor pool that must be a joy to get into during their winter time when everything is covered in snow.

We did get one of their premium rooms, and it was okay, a little rustic, it's all a gigantic wooden cabin, but the bed, bathroom and all the amenities were just what you would expect from a luxury hotel.

The service was okay, and the restaurant was very nice, with plenty of local cuisine to try. We specially liked a rare-meats dish which we ordered during happy hour at the lobby bar. We also signed up for their archery classes in a beautiful scenery outdoors.

I would say that the only downside is that this hotel is a little far from town, but they did offer us free transportation at a fixed schedule during the day, and the rest of the time, you can just get a taxi, they aren't that expensive.

I visited the Llao Llao Hotel & Resort while on bicycling trip through the Lake District of Chile & Argentina. Throughout the trip we stayed at numerous great hotels & lodges. While all were wonderful, the Llao Llao was by far the best. It must rank as one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at, anyplace. Th faciltities were great, the service perfect and the views in every direction were simply awesome, especially looking towars Vulcan Tronador. Not cheap, but worth it - a well worthwhile splurge.

It is one of the best travel experiences my family has had. I had my 60th birthday celebration trip with my wife, daughter/son in law and son/daughter in law there. It was the highlight of our trip.
Everybody was very happy and comfortable. Of course the town of Bariloche, which is about 20 km from the hotel is a marvelous one well worth of spending a couple of days there too. In winter, snow ski is very good and one of the mountains is not too far from the Llao Llao.
I would go to Bariloche and Llao Llao anytime I am in Buenos Aires.
