Excellent setting, with a large lawn and view of the mountains and the lights of Salta at night. Lovely building, mostly one storey with covered walkways and courtyards, with a little fountain in the lobby. Superbly furnished throughout - their website does not do them justice at all. Two large lounges with huge comfy designer sofas. Staff very lovely. Huge pool. Simple but delicious food in the restaurant. Breakfast features a large pile of the best croissants we've had in three months in Argentina, proper French style. Large firm beds with gorgeous bedding. And all this at an astonishingly low price: AR$300 / US$75 for a double with ensuite, breakfast included.
Salta is a 15-minute drive away; AR$30 / US$7 in a taxi. In our limited experience, Salta isn't really a city you explore, since the historic part is quite a small area, so we didn't feel we lost out by living out of town.
The wine list is non-existent: they just have a couple of Cafayate wines and bring them to your table to pick. All the ones I tried were excellent. They are happy for you to bring your own wine too - I went to the brilliant La Estacion Bebidas on Balcarce 983 in Salta which has whole sections devoted to Cafayate and high-altitude wines at great prices.
All in all, in terms of ratio of price to quality, probably the best hotel we've ever stayed in.
