After traveling around Argentina for a couple of weeks, we ended up at the Executive Park suites for our five-day stay in Mendoza because of all the positive reviews we saw on Trip Advisor. I will say that this place is pretty comfortable and better than, say, a Super 8. The staff was overall very helpful and nice (also bilingual). However, we encountered several problems on our stay here. Least important, their WiFi is absolutely horrible. We had two computers (a Mac and a PC) and both were unable to keep a connection. Even in their “business center,” the internet was painfully slow (I understand we cant expect blazing internet speeds everywhere, but they shouldn’t advertise high-speed internet). Also, our room smelled like sewage. We aren’t too picky when it comes to places we stay, and have had many interesting experiences, but this place was disgusting. We called about it, and that came up and poured the equivalent of PineSol into the drains, but after the pine-scent faded, it smelled like sewage again. We moved rooms twice, and it was the same. The smell alone kept you from sleeping at night. We met a couple at the hotel, and asked for their opinion (to make sure we weren’t being too picky) and they agreed. The smell alone is reason enough not to stay there.
We stayed there over Christmas, and asked the front desk to help make reservations for Christmas Eve dinner, which we were told they would do. We arrived at our reservation, the “only place open in all of Mendoza” that night, and had no such reservation. Admittedly, we are greenhorns when it comes to travel, so we trusted our “concierge” (as they called themselves) , but we didn’t think we had any other choice, so we paid the astronomical $250.00 to eat dinner, and waited until 10pm to eat. There was no choosing the meal, just a set menu. I brushed that off as our mistake, and ignorance on our part. However, a couple days later, after looking for a tour with the various local companies, the girl at the front desk convinced us to go through them, because they were about US$30 cheaper, and the tour was private and the guide was bilingual (this was not a communication issue- she wrote the details out for us). Needless to say, our guide didn’t speak a lick of English, and our private wine tour included one winery and a tour of an olive oil factory. Neither of these places were aware of us coming….we basically got a remsis, and the poor driver had to beg for us to get in. For US$30 more, we could have gotten an all-inclusive tour which would have included tasting/ tour fees. The bottom line is that I feel that we were scammed. I would not stay here again. There are so many cool boutique hotels in Mendoza (we found out later), I don’t think this place is worth the $110 per night.
