“bed bugs. enough said.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2009

When we first arrived at the hostel it didn't look like anything too special. No breakfast in the morning and no computer with internet connection, but we weren't in mendoza for the hostel. what first put us off was the dirtiness of the bathroom, and then the woman who was working the desk said she did not have the 'authority' to give us towels, and we had to wait for the boss to come back. Then later that night when we returned we found BED BUGS. not just one dead one (which would have been enough) but we looked at all the mattresses in our room and found a bunch, including some that were alive. We got out of that hostel A.S.A.P. at least, the owner was very nice in not putting up a fight about us leaving, and even helped us book another hostel. But, I am just sending out a warning, he didn't even seem to know what bed bugs were (and we speak spanish fluently and were able to explain and name them in spanish) nor did he seem that concerned (he might have just thought we were a couple of neurotic girls)

we changed to Hostel Beltran which was wonderful, clean, had soap in the bathroom, good towels and a good breakfast.

“Ok place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2009

I must say that I am quite surprised by the other reviews... Ok, I have stayed in this hostel a while ago and things might have changed since then but still... One of the review says no TV, nor phone in the room... Well, this is an hostel so, what do you expect?

I won't say that this hostel was my favourite in 1 month travelling but it is an ok place to stay. Not a lot of people were sleeping there (I would say 4 including us 2) when we stayed there as we were in Mendoza just before a big event and the city looked empty. So the place was really quiet, we had a 6 dorm room for ourselves! It is located in a residential area, which is always nice (at least for me, I don't like the hassle of the city centers anyway...). The staff was friendly but I have to mention that I speak Spanish, which generally helps ;-)

So if you are on a budget and want something quiet, it is a good place to stay. No luxury of course, very basic lodging, but certainly not the worst place we stayed at!

“Stay away at any cost!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2008

Ditto to the previous review. And that review did not exaggerate.

I had read in the NY Times travel section (based on Frommer's) that this was the "classiest" hostel in Mendoza. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is in a quiet residential neighborhood farther away from the main activities in Mendoza. That is not the problem, though.

The hostel is DIRTY. I took one look at the mattress of a bed in our room (not even covered by a sheet), and it looked like something someone had left on the side of the road after a bedbug infestation. The room was also freezing. There was no phone, tv or any other amenities in the room. The blankets looked disgusting, and the bathroom was a horror show. Also, the owners have small dogs that roam freely around the hostel.

We set our stuff down and immediately looked for an alternative hotel. The cheap price was not even close to worth it. We paid for one night ($33) for having had our stuff stored there for about 2 hours, and it was well worth that money to leave. I wonder if the owners bribed Frommer's for that crazy review.

Go elsewhere!

“Word of warning!!!”

For those of you who might be looking for a cheap hostel in Mendoza stay well away from Quinta!!

It is absolutely filthy. You are afraid you might catch some infectious disease when you use the bathroom, you would find comfier bedrooms in prison cells and the staff are completely useless.

My boyfriend and I have just escaped a hostage situation after refusing to pay for a room which we didn´t even stay in (after one glance we left and looked for something better)

After returning to collect our stuff the staff wouldn´t except our generous offer of half the cost for the time we had left our bags and kept us there till we paid up (despite the fact that we left the hell hole at 1pm!!)

In sum I´ve seen better standards of hygiene in the sewers and I´d rather be mauled by a rabid dog than spend a night there (ok, ok i´m exaggerating but I just want to get the point home to STAY AWAY!!)
