As others have commented, this is not a true four star hotel, but it is certainly an upper three star lodging. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly English-speaking receptionist. Based on prior reviews, I asked if there was a corner room available. He checked and upgraded us to a corner room without any price increase. The room was quite large; there was very little noise from the street (by South American standards) and the furnishings were clean and the bed comfortable.
The location is excellent as it is quite easy to walk to the center of the city. The pool was clean, the towels provided were thick and soft, and it was not crowded.
The only negative was the restaurant. We ordered a salmon dish and couldn't finish it. The salmon was dry and over-cooked. The risotto was no nearer being real risotto than I am to being the real dauphin. It was undercooked and tasted and looked like it came out of a box. Not even arborio rice; at best it was simply long-grain and I'm not even sure about that.
On top of it all, a customer apparently had a complaint about her meal and the waiter engaged her in a loud "discussion" in the middle of the dining room. The wait staff were untrained (our waiter corked the wine when he attempted to open it) and not particularly helpful in recommending our meal. In short, even though we will likely stay at the hotel when we return to Mendoza on future trips, we will not return to the restaurant.
The breakfast buffet in the hotel, however, was standard South American fare. Plenty of choices and all we tried were quite good.
Overall we were quite pleased and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel when visiting M<endoza.
