This is a good hotel. Clean, spacious rooms and good breakfast. Good location.
HIghlights: Well located. Nicely designed and renovated rooms. Large. Good fitness, spa, and pool centre.
BUT: could not control the thermostat in the room, could not get shower water below hot/warm, low quality bathroom amenities, weak on English among staff.
Overall, the commitment to good quality service is lacking despite the nice facilities. I would likely feel comfortable going again, if the price was competitive and I was not going with high expectations for something other than a solid average hotel experience.
I have stayed in Sheratons all over the world and they are usually a positive experience. This was not the case in Mendoza. We got no help with our bagage on arrival. We had booked a club room with breakfast, but could only get a twin room when booking. We arrived at 9.30 a.m. and were told that our room would be available at 3 p.m. but that they would try to get it ready by 1 p.m. Still no king-size bedrooms available. We asked to go to the club lounge to wait and were directed to a dingy bar on the ground floor where coffee was available. After much prevarication it was finally admitted that the top-floor lounge was in fact closed. We were also told that breakfast was not included in our room rate, contrary to our written confirmation. I should add we are SPG´s. The young lady on the customer relations desk sorted things out and got us into a king-sized room by 11 a.m. The hotel seemed to be more or less empty, which perhaps explained the dispirited attitude of the staff. Our room was OK, although not of normal club standard; the hotel is only a couple of years old, yet the furniture was old and scuffed, perhaps moved from elsewhere. A door to the toilet was warped and my wife got stuck inside. Help arrived quickly and we were told the door would be fixed by the next day. Did not happen. We asked for a catalogue of services available in the hotel, but none was available. Breakfast OK, apart from the staff cleaning and resetting our table when we went for second-helpings. Poor standard of English spoken by most of the staff. The top-floor lounge opened again the next day; the range of drinks consisted of one coca-cola and one fanta. Once again the same atmosphere of desolation. The internet did not work there, nor could you change chanels on the TV, presumably no batteries changed. No staff in sight.
Snail´s pace checkout, for some reason two credit card payments were required. I needed help to access the free internet in the lounge, not clear why. On paying for the internet in your room you have to pay twice if you have two computers, not the most unusual circumstance in this day and age. But, as many others have pointed out, Sheraton sees the internet as a much-needed source of income, rather than an automatic free service.
One honourable mention, a young bell-boy called Fernando, who was pleasant, friendly, helpful and spoke excellent English. He must feel pretty lonely.
The hotel location and building is fine. However, this seems to be a very poorly managed hotel - the service and the staff attention was the worst we have experienced in Argentina, and there were extremely many "little" mistakes with everything from the air-conditioner to the check-in. We wasted a lot of time waiting around for things to be fixed, including extremely slow serving of coffee/tea at breakfast, a looong wait in the bar in the evening, lack of towels at the pool area etc etc.
We recommend to just find another hotel. (And this is not a Sheraton-issue, we also stayed at Sheraton Iguazu during our travels in Argentina and it was fantastic!!)
I made my hotel reservations through expedia, apparently there is a mandatory $30 round-trip airport transfer fee added by the Sharaton. $15 each way is more than you would pay using a regular taxi service I'm guessing.
When I arrived in Mendoza very late at night, there was no one to pick me up. Apparently there was some kind of mix up regarding my pick up. Thankfully there's a customer service desk located at the airport and they were able to call the Sharaton directly and help me get to their hotel. Eventually they sent a taxi to pick me up. They apologized for the mix up and did a few things to calm things down. So all was well. However, during the whole airport transport process, each time I was asked directly by the driver for payment. This should not have occurred as it's my understanding they should be reimbursed directly by the hotel and I should maybe just pay the driver a tip. Fortunately I speak a little Spanish and told the driver to see the hotel about payment.
The hotel needs to have better communication with the drivers and they should not be asking us for money.
The hotel room itself was very clean and updated. The showers were great too, great pressure. The only issue I had was that the mattress was way too firm for me. But it's always easy to make a bed softer, I was able to get some more blankets folded them in half using them as mattress pads turning the bed into a perfect comfortable place to sleep. FYI - if you should get a room with 2 twin size mattresses, know that the beds are definitely larger than a standard twin which was a great surprise.
It's very easy to walk around town from the hotel and taxis are cheap if it's too hot to walk. (Was there in January and it was hot).
I made my wine tours in advance. I did one group tour with Ampora Wine Tours and then hired a driver that I had seen here on tripadvisor, Marcelo Villegas to Valle de Uco.
I found the front desk staff to all be professional and extremely helpful.
I would not hesitate to recommend staying at this hotel.
