The external pictures of the hotel are a bit misleading as the hotel itself can't be seen from outside - it's upstairs. It's very secure, there is either a staff member at the door or entry system to gain entry. The staff are unfailingly helpful and many speak very good english. They helped with faxes, directions, translation, storage of bags etc. There's free internet and they allowed us to store our bags when we went away for a night.
The room was full of character - very high ceilings, lots of wood, ornaments and pictures associated with tango. It was well furnished and had everything we needed. The bathroom was small, but well equiped. The shower was better than the one we have at home.
Breakfast was continental and seemed to be laid out on a table early with no further checking. Croissants, bread, cheese, ham, coffee and juice - all perfectly adequate. If you were later to breakfast you would find the dirty dishes of all previous diners still lying about and have to search for the clean plates/mugs and may find the juice or coffee finished. If you went downstairs to reception you could start a chain of events that would eventually replenish these, but it was a hassle.
The bedrooms are on a single corridor which goes round the tango show and is on the same level as the band who play from a balcony within the show room. This means that you are closer to the band than the people at the show. It is VERY loud and the show doesn't stop until 1115. Sleep is not possible until this time unless you are exhausted which we were on our first night - on other nights we just planned on being out. The music is part of what gives the hotel it's character, but it's too loud. There is also a singer in the show who is not very good, but also very loud. These shows run every night. As Buenos Aires eats late, it's easy to come back from dinner after the end of the show, but that may not be what you want.
The bedrooms are up four flights (2 from entry to reception, 2 more from reception to bedrooms) of long, narrow, steep, curving stairs and it's difficult to carry suitcases. If you are averagely fit, they are not a problem, but would be a problem if mobility is an issue.
The hotel is located a bit out of the main drag and you really need to walk/taxi at least 10 blocks before you get into the main centre, but that's reflected in the price.
