During our current (first and hopefully not the last) visit to Buenos Aires we've stayed 3 times in Urban Suites Recoleta Boutique hotel, which served us as a base for all our travels in Argentina. Soon we've known every person at the front desk by name and each time coming back to the hotel had a feeling of returning home.
The hotel is a real boutique hotel. Looking not so big from the outside, it has surprisingly nice and spacious rooms (actually suites) with big windows, a balcony and a large bathroom - all comparable to a 5-star hotel (while the price is significantly lower than in the European hotel of the same level). There is also refrigerator, micro-wave and coffee percolator. It was a pleasure to come back after the long "working" day of a tourist, to enjoy the spa (gym was already unnecessary) and to have a rest on a comfortable bed. In the Trip Advisor the hotel is rated as equivalent to 3.5 stars, our opinion - it is worth 4.5 at least.
The location was just perfect - quiet (with a nice view to the Recoleta cemetery, which is a "live" museum by itself, and the river), 20 min walking distance to the center - so that most of the time we walked by foot, even late at night, coming back after performances at the Teatro Colon and "Tango Porteno". The whole area of Recoleta seems to be safe and solid. From here you can easily walk to MALBA and Japanese Garden in Palermo (even to La viruta, if you want to have a tango lesson in an authentic and informal place, frequented mostly by local people) or to take a bus to San Telmo (even there we went by foot) and La Boca. Thanks to this location, we've got quite good knowledge of the central part of the city. Though, it must be mentioned, taxi in Buenos Aires is not expensive.
There are many very good restaurants in the vicinity - like not expensive, but very good Rodi bar (200-300 meters from the hotel on the V. Lopez or more exclusive Fervor on Posadas str, another 5-10 min of walking.
The maintenance and cleanliness were perfect. Breakfast was very good, including eggs, cold meat, cheese, juice and freshly cut fruits plus freshly backed rolls, croissants and "medialunas". By the way, each time we had to leave early to the airport, small breakfast was prepared for us at 4 or 5 am.
All people of the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. Rodrigo from the Sales and Marketing office, had helped a lot with changing resevation days and also with his invaluable advices concerning options of travelling and sightseeing, also helping with ordering tickets for performances. All receptionists from the front desk helped a lot with checking the flights, ordering taxi or finding out bus connections, places to eat and even places for tango lessons (we're new groupies of this wonderful argentinian creation). Through them we've learned quite a bit about everyday life of argentinian people.
We must acknowledge that Urban Suites was a perfect entrance gate to Buenos Aires, it was a major factor in our falling in love with this city and its people and when we come back next time (hopefully not in a far future), we'll definitely stay in this hotel.
N.B.
We have read 2 negative comments in Trip Advisor about the hotel. We must testify: there was no noise at night (disco had gone, while demolition of the adjacent building is over). Concerning the mosquitos - we didn't see any, even though the door to the balcony was opened for quite a while.
