“Disappointing”

This is difficult review to write since Maria is very good at the friendliness aspect of her guesthouse, and the people she provides to give tango and Spanish lessons, conduct walking tours and take one to milongas are fantastic - I'm pleased to have met them. Her friendliness wins over many international fans who return here time and time again, and I know I'm not the first person to feel that speaking up on this site is some sort of betrayal of all those nice people.
However, we have written to Maria laying out the causes of our disappointment and how things could be improved, and in far more detail than I can here. We know of others who have offered similar feedback. If these individual dissatisfactions are not made public, unsuspecting tangueros from around the world will continue to go away disappointed from Casa De Maria Tango.
The bottomline is that Maria charges far too much for what's actually on offer. We paid US$1150 for a 10 day "tour", which included airport pickup and dropoff, Spanish and tango lessons daily and accompaniment to a milonga, as well as a city tour and a couple of dinners, plus US$70 for nine nights outside the tour. This total amount was handed over in cash on arrival and receipts, though asked for, never eventuated. An air of unprofessional disorganisation hung over our entire stay, and there were several muddles and misunderstandings that resulted in a waste of our precious holiday time.
The rooms are delapidated and dirty (we're talking food going rotten and stinking in a fridge), the linen is grey and thin, furnishings scrappy and inadequate, service (including breakfast) erratic. Our rooms were cleaned and linen changed only twice in two and a half weeks.
Most disappointing of all, although we were entitled to 10 tango lessons each and we received only six, and a refund has not been forthcoming. This is a breach of contract. So, no, I'm afraid we won't be going back here.

“Good area, lovely people, poor accommodation and organisation”

The area is great and local people wonderful. Visit Mocambo and talk with Oscar. We were taken to some lovely milongas and had a great Spanish teacher and the dance teacher Luis is a darling but for the price the cost is high. Cold and dirty and the number of tango lessons promised were not realized. Disorganised and dirty.

“Very pleasant atmosphere.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2010

Excellent loacation to everything in the centre. The staff were very helpful for information and guidance. A very safe place. As a single woman traveller, I felt like I was with family. Most of the guests like to dance tango, so Maria was available to accompany us to the best milongas in the city. She knows all the tango places.
I'm looking forward to returning next year.

“The Best Place to stay for Tango Dancers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2010

I have been staying at Casa Maria Tango for the past 7 years. I am a tango dancer for many years and now a tango teacher for the past 5 years. I bring my students to Buenos Aries for them to get the real experiance of tango from the local Portenos. You will get this from Maria and her lovely staff everyday that you are there. They are all warm, generous and kind. You will meet tango dancers from all over the world, like I have in my past trips. Maria will make daily plans for you if you wish or she wil let you plan out you own places to visit. There is a Salon to practice your tango in and for lessons. Sometime she even has a cultural events in the Salon at night . The tango house is full of warmth and charm, not fancy, just a wonderful place to spend a week or two or even a month like many people do. I am looking forward to staying there on my next trip in November!

“nice place for tango people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

Very cozy and friendly place. If you're a tango dancer it's probably one af the best, htey cater to your needs, have a practice room as well and you can book lessons there. You'll also meet like minded people and you can go dancing together.
Two thumbs up!
