“Lovely people, a bit pricey, but generally a nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

After 6 weeks of traveling Argentina solo, my boyfriend was supposed to meet me for a very romantic 5 days in Buenos Aires together. Unfortunately, the volcano in Chile had other plans, and my boyfriend never made it to BA, which I found out the morning we were to check in to the hotel. We had booked the best suite in the hotel, Deluxe Suite 5, and now I was stuck with an exorbitant bill since it was too late to cancel our reservation. The owner DID let me change rooms and downgrade to a not-nearly-as-fancy Suite 1, which saved me quite a bit of cash. After the chaos of the first day, I was able to relax and thoroughly enjoy myself and my stay. The rooms are comfortable, and the jacuzzi was a nice way to slip into relaxation. The location is great if you are looking for a trendy, hip (expensive) part of town.

The best part of this hotel is the service. The front desk staff is knowledgeable, kind, and helpful with helping to navigate the bohemoth that is BA. And after my stay, I had a 5 day trip planned to Iguazú and Patricia allowed me to leave a suitcase the whole time I was away. That saved me a lot of hassle, since I already had a large backpack and a smaller backpack to contend with. (My boyfriend was supposed to take the suitcase back to the States with him, but again... the volcano in Chile had other plans.

The negatives: The floor of my room was dirty, after walking around barefoot for 2 minutes, my feet were black. I know the wood is probably hard to clean, but I'm pretty sure it had been a long time since a mop had been passed over it. As for the cancellation policy, I think they were too strict. I tried to negotiate with the owner and offered to stay one or two out of the 4 nights that were booked and then move to a more reasonable place. My boyfriend was supposed to pay for the hotel, and I really couldn't afford it. (I was on a hostel budget.) I understand the policy, I just felt that she could have been a little more understanding.

All in all, I would say this is a nice place to stay, the staff is wonderful. It is a little pricey, and you need to leave the area if you want to find a reasonably priced restaurant. Again, I was on a hostel budget and was not expecting to foot the bill, so I might be a little biased on the price.

Room Tip: Deluxe Suite 5 is the nicest, most romantic room in the place.

“Pleasant genuine boutique hotel excellently situated for BA's best barrio.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2011

Not a hotel for the sterile chain hotel loving tourist l, but a characterful genuine boutique (unlike so many who claim that title) on the edge of Palermo, the most stylish part of Buenos Aires. The room was large, nicy furnished (including a large comfortable bed) with a clean bathroom featuring a jacuzzi bath. No problem with security as the front door is always locked and it's a decent area anyway. Only negative complaints were the reluctance to take payment by card and a slight lack lustre breakfast. But in all, highly recommended if this is your type of hotel. We only moved after 3 nights as our budget was stretched.

“Very run down hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

We stayed at the Baucis as part of a "romance" package that they offered through a Groupon-type site and I was very disappointed. If you're a budget traveler, this may be the place for you, but don't expect much. The hotel is relatively clean which may be one of it's only positives.

From the lobby to the rooms, the hotel is quite run-down. The building is old and shows a lot of signs of wear and tear. Pieces of the ceiling were falling apart in our room. The fridge was not working, and the curtains were falling off the hooks letting the morning sun spill into the room.

All in all, a very average hotel and I think you could find better for the price.

“Over I had a great trip and would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. - DEW”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

The Baucis Palermo Hotel is a very nice hotel located in the barrio of Palermo in the city of Buenos Aires Argentina. If you want the true feeling of Buenos Aires, don’t stay at one of the large Americanized hotels, but choose a local smaller hotel like this one in the hip & lively neighborhood.

Located in a trendy area in the city, The Baucis Palermo hotel is close to many inexpensive busses routes and a walk-able distance to the super inexpensive subway system that runs the length of the city to take you anywhere you want to go.

The hotel’s comfortable room accommodations are economically priced and will suit any budget depending on preference & sizes. Each room has a private bathroom, adjustable air conditioning, a television, a private phone, a mini refrigerator, a room safe, everything you’ll need to be happy. You are locally situated near some nice restraints, outdoor cafés, several bars, stores for fashionable neighborhood shopping, and few corner markets to keep yourself stocked.

The hotel staff were very gracious, speak several languages including English & French, and very-very friendly with helpful suggestions for daily activities and going out each night. Additionally the hotel has a free computer for all guests to use (very useful) when confirming or planning additional trip arrangements, and free Wi-Fi as well in the lobby.
Over I had a great trip and would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. - DEW

“The hotel website is deceiving”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

First of all, the pictures on their website are deceiving. The hotel is very run down. It could be beautiful if the owner, who also works the front desk, would invest some time and money into the place. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the maids who did not speak English. They were very nice, but my Spanish sucks and the hotel claimed to have English speaking desk staff. Since they don't have 24 hour desk workers, I was unable to inquire about the hotel's services at that time.

If you know anything about Buenos Aires, then you know that Palermo Hollywood is pretty far away from Recoleta and the City Center (Centro), but I chose to stay here anyway because they claimed to offer spa services. THEY DID NOT! The owner told me that Argentina was a very religious country so no one would be available to give massages at any time during my stay. I also emailed to schedule spa appointments before I arrived, but never received a response. It don't think spa services are even offered on the premises because I never saw a room or area that they call their "beauty center." The spa is the only reason I chose this hotel over one listed in Recoleta, where I spent most of my time any way. The hotel should have said that they would not be fully operational before booking guests.

The hotel also claims to have many other services like room service, currency exchange, wine tasting, etc. There's no room service, they don't even cook on site. There's no way they can have a currency exchange because they couldn't even provide change in Argentine pesos after charging me for wifi (which is $10US of $40pesos for 24 hours).

Other things that disappointed me about the Baucis is the fact that housekeeping leaves the doors and windows open during and after cleaning the rooms, with no regard for the security of the guest's belongings. The front door is always kept locked so you have to ring the bell and stand and wait for someone to open it. Since they don't have a 24 hour desk worker, you are sometimes left standing outside for several minutes. You are told to leave your room key with the front desk when leaving the hotel and one time I was told that my key was upstairs; I had to go looking for it and finally found that one of the housekeepers had it. I thought that was pretty rude of the guy to send me to do his job...I'M ON VACATION! I also read a TripAdvisor review from earlier in the year that complained about "breakfast buffet" pictures on their website being deceptive. Patricia, the owner, responded that they now offered scrambled eggs and omelettes, THIS IS UNTRUE. The breakfast still consists of rolled up ham and cheese and bread. We were told that wine tasting only took place on Thursdays, but we checked in on Thursday and saw nothing of the kind (their website says Wednesday). They list a variety of services on their website and in-room flyer, but never made mention of them to me. They had an excuse for why they couldn't provide the services when I asked.

Don't let your hotel ruin your trip to this great city!

I'm very sorry about your experience in Baucis.
As owner of the place, I like to be at the reception desk some days in of the week to have direct contact with my guest. Baucis is more a private residence than a standar hotel.
You came at Xrtmas time and I remember telling you that on Xrtmas Eve, this was Dec 24th afternoon we couldn-t provide Massage. Not on the 25th as this are Family Celebration days. I can understand your dissapointment as you were on vacation, and I feel sorry for that.

About currency exchange there are banks and ATM at walking distance from Baucis. At the time you came, if you read the news, heard that Argentinians bank were having problems with cash. This is the reason why we and many stores, were accepting only Credit Card (even with the extra cost it means)

About housekeeping, yes we leave the door and windows open, for correct ventilation. And security has never been a problem, as our guest behave and feel like being home. We do care about securty and keep the front door lock, and a front desk worker is alway there, 24x 365
We do offer scrambled eggs and omelettes, yogouth, cookies, croisan, fruits...

Anytime you like you may ask for wines, by the glass or bottle. Wine tasting have an extra charge.

One again Im sorry about your bad experience. Fortunatelly we have many guest that enjoy their stay. Sincerelly

Patricia
