“Great location, very friendly staff, great beds....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Must admit we were not sure about our booking here as my sister had recently visited BA and stayed at this hotel and was not fussed with her experience - so I was a little unsure of what our own experience might be......but we were not disappointed in the least and was very glad we did not change our booking to another hotel.
Despite not being overly fussed with BA itself this hotel was very pleasant. Great San Telmo location, easy walk straight up same street (Defensa) to the antique market about 3 blocks away approximately. This is a must do!
Adequate breakfast, nice big rooms with lovely comfortable beds. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Opposite a park which was interesting to sit in particularly on New Years Eve when we arrived as it was full of families letting off fire crackers! Good restaurants just over the road and along Defensa (st or ave not sure which). Walking distance to the centre of town or the river. Free WIFI in rooms.
We enjoyed our stay at Gurda Tango and would definitely recommend staying here if you like this particular area of BA.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room at the back of the hotel - there are 3 or 4 rooms in the passage way to...

“Why would you want to stay any where else when in Buenos Aires ?”

We booked 2 nights and ended up staying for 6, such was the genuine comfort of this hotel.

The location is ideal. A lazy Sunday morning for those who want to fall out of bed for the fantastic San Telmo antique market. A very direct route into downtown and perfectly positioned for local bars and restaurants.

We stayed in 2 of the standard rooms. Generously proportioned, beautifully furnished, comfortably cool (fantastically high ceilings) even during the heat of December and impeccably clean. Faultless WiFi for those who need it.

This small hotel (7 rooms) has a charmful character but above all the staff make your stay very special. Karina, Carolina and the rest of the team are genuine, enthusiastic, and wonderfully helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble and we cannot thank them enough.

We selected this hotel on the basis of Trip Advisor reviews and hope you do the same.

We have no hesitation in returning to Gurda Tango when we next visit BA.

“Amazing”

The staff here are fantastic, they were basically our tour guides of BA. Booked tours, helped with logistics, dealt with Aerolinas, city bus numbers, hundreds of questions, simply amazing.

San Telmo, real, raw, best hood in BA for me, everything was a walk or bus away.

Rooms clean, beds firm, linens soft.

I can't wait to come and stay again!

“Great staff, needs some minor maintenance”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

We spent four nights in this hotel in early September. Our welcome from Carolina was delightful and informative, and this immediately raised our expectations of the hotel.

We were in room 6, designated as a junior suite with quite a large main room at the back of the hotel. The room amenities included a large main room, sink area separate to the toilet and bath/shower, a small separate dressing area, in-room safe, TV, the main room and bathroom had underfloor heating which was very welcome during our stay (there is also an air conditioner) and hair dryer is available on request. The floors were very clean, there were fresh towels daily. Wifi was available and worked in the room throughout our stay. The room was very quiet and the only noise we had at night were the (quite loud but for us very pleasant noise for the middle of a large city) pigeons – the rooms closer to reception would be quieter!

We only had breakfast on two of the four mornings due to our excursions and flights. The first morning the breakfast was fairly basic: coffee from an insulated jug, orange drink (not fresh juice), 2 types of cereal, two types of toast bread, jams and sweet croissants. At our second breakfast the offering also included yoghurt and some fresh fruit.

The hotel is located at the edge of the city’s oldest neighbourhood, San Telmo (close to La Boca) and across the street from Parque Lemaza. It is an easy walk to Plaza Dorrego (less than 10 minutes) and about double that to Plaza de Mayo. My husband was initially a little testy about the state of the sidewalks and the neighbourhood, but soon became comfortable and appreciated the benefits of the being in this central area. We always felt very safe walking around.

Of the staff, Carolina was the standout, with information, advice and remembering what we had been up to during the day and enquiring how it went. The other staff were friendly and spoke English. Reception is open 24 hours. You have to buzz to get into the hotel (security not just here which is close to La Boca but everywhere we stayed in Argentina), but staff were always close by and we never had to wait to enter.

Our room required some minor maintenance, which was disappointing: the wooden bathroom door was broken at the bottom, there was a missing picture but the hook was still in the wall, the mirror/shelf was on an angle so anything placed on the shelf fell onto the floor, the walls could use a coat of paint and the fixed bathtub screen made it difficult to run a bath without getting into the bath first and also for a tall person to easily enter the bath/shower as the wall at the open end was angled. Such items should be attended to, as the hotel could be special.

On returning on our last day, Carolina noticed some ink on my clothing. She checked the internet as to what should be done as it was too late for the cleaners, and soaked it overnight in milk. This enabled the dry cleaners to subsequently get the ink out – thank you Carolina.

Overall we recommend this hotel for service and value.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the reception are quieter during the night than those at the end of the hotel (pigeo...
