We spent four nights in this hotel in early September. Our welcome from Carolina was delightful and informative, and this immediately raised our expectations of the hotel.
We were in room 6, designated as a junior suite with quite a large main room at the back of the hotel. The room amenities included a large main room, sink area separate to the toilet and bath/shower, a small separate dressing area, in-room safe, TV, the main room and bathroom had underfloor heating which was very welcome during our stay (there is also an air conditioner) and hair dryer is available on request. The floors were very clean, there were fresh towels daily. Wifi was available and worked in the room throughout our stay. The room was very quiet and the only noise we had at night were the (quite loud but for us very pleasant noise for the middle of a large city) pigeons – the rooms closer to reception would be quieter!
We only had breakfast on two of the four mornings due to our excursions and flights. The first morning the breakfast was fairly basic: coffee from an insulated jug, orange drink (not fresh juice), 2 types of cereal, two types of toast bread, jams and sweet croissants. At our second breakfast the offering also included yoghurt and some fresh fruit.
The hotel is located at the edge of the city’s oldest neighbourhood, San Telmo (close to La Boca) and across the street from Parque Lemaza. It is an easy walk to Plaza Dorrego (less than 10 minutes) and about double that to Plaza de Mayo. My husband was initially a little testy about the state of the sidewalks and the neighbourhood, but soon became comfortable and appreciated the benefits of the being in this central area. We always felt very safe walking around.
Of the staff, Carolina was the standout, with information, advice and remembering what we had been up to during the day and enquiring how it went. The other staff were friendly and spoke English. Reception is open 24 hours. You have to buzz to get into the hotel (security not just here which is close to La Boca but everywhere we stayed in Argentina), but staff were always close by and we never had to wait to enter.
Our room required some minor maintenance, which was disappointing: the wooden bathroom door was broken at the bottom, there was a missing picture but the hook was still in the wall, the mirror/shelf was on an angle so anything placed on the shelf fell onto the floor, the walls could use a coat of paint and the fixed bathtub screen made it difficult to run a bath without getting into the bath first and also for a tall person to easily enter the bath/shower as the wall at the open end was angled. Such items should be attended to, as the hotel could be special.
On returning on our last day, Carolina noticed some ink on my clothing. She checked the internet as to what should be done as it was too late for the cleaners, and soaked it overnight in milk. This enabled the dry cleaners to subsequently get the ink out – thank you Carolina.
Overall we recommend this hotel for service and value.
