“Great stay, despite some drama. Amazing staff!”

The Axel Hotel in Buenos Aires was our hotel for about a week, and we stayed in two rooms, one facing the road and then one facing the back pool area. The rooms are stylish and comfortable, and have an interesting design tied into the look of the entire hotel. Loved the see through pool floor and atrium. The pool and patio out back along with the bar are a great place to catch rays, rest, meet fellow travelers, and ocasionally take in a tango show or a wild pool party.

Unfortunately I was robbed on one of the final days of my stay while I was sitting out back by the bar. It was shocking because it happened when so many people were around. Viewing video surveillance, I saw the culprits who were clearly professional thieves simply walk away with my bag ( which had my iPhone, Camera, Lap Top, and iPad in it.. as well as my Passport ) and I had no clue until it was too late.

The staff and management of the Hotel Axel handled the situation completely professionally and were an enormous help to me. They helped me file a police report, and provided me with a place to stay until I could get my emergency travel documents. Leaving the hotel, we felt like we knew the staff there and left having made some friends. Thanks to the team there! I would definitely go back for another stay.

Room Tip: Our room at the front of the hotel was a bit noisy once rush hour traffic started in the mornings, a...

Was here for two weeks in Feb 2012, fantastic trip. The facilities (outdoor pool, spa level with pool, bar, resto) were awesome. Best of all is the Sunday pool party, hosted by the top performers of Buenos Aires nightlife.. very cool. ;)

“Nice hotel with very friendly staff”

My girlfriend and I stayed here after having reserved a room at a disgusting hostel. I booked not knowing it was marketed toward the gay community. However, this didn't bother us at all being a straight couple and the staff was very helpful and kind towards us. One of the front desk workers, Juan Ignacio, was especially nice and helpful. He recommended a great tango show for us as well as this amazing steak house like 3 blocks away. We ate there I think 4 times in 5 days it was so good. I think it was called dos platos or something like that.
Anyways the rooms are all really nice, big, clean and wel equipt. Nice t.v's, wi-fi, 2 CPUs for guest use, and a nice pool with sauna and two hot tubs. Nice big breakfast buffet included that was really good. Fresh fruit, cereal, yougurt, and even eggs, sausage and bacon for some hot foods.
Other reviews are accurate that there is a lot of street noise, but you're in a city and I think it is a resonable amount given the good location Overall this was one of the nicest hotels I stayed at while traveling thru 6 countries in South America. Highly recommend.

“Nice hotel, but not worth the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I loved the showers and the rooms were pretty nice. The staff were also pretty helpful and the modern/chic environment is also pretty cool.

The street and area of town is not the best, however. I realized all the great gay bars, etc. were in Palermo, a 40 peso taxi ride away. It probably would've been better staying at a place in that area of town cause the taxi rides add up.

It's a nice place to stay at for a day or two, but more than that is not really worth it.

The pool looked nice, but even though it's just a few years old, it was already getting some wear and tear. The spa area was also kinda cool, but you have to pay $15 to use it (the upstairs pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym, etc) Definitely not worth the price. The jacuzzi also looked kinda dirty.

Also, the guys staying at the hotel were kinda creepy. Usually older guys looking to cruise and speak as little as possible. I felt eye raped many times while there.

All in all, it was a good experience, and I may stay again, but the price is kind of a turn-off.

“Over-rated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

For my first two nights in BA I thought the Axel would be a bit of a treat, something special after a long journey, but in reality I found it a bit ordinary. The entrance off a fairly noisy, grubby street made me think I had arrived at a different Axel! Inside was nice. Room was comfortable, nice bed and great shower, but I think overall I feel the place is in need of a bit of an upgrade and is getting frayed at the edges. Breakfast nothing to write home about. Staff were good and generally helpful. The pool area looked very nice but didn't try it, nor the the spa, so can't comment. I don't think it's worth the hype, bit too much image over substance.

The maintenance of the hotel, I transmit you are carrying out a comprehensive plan for improvements and maintenance are some of the spaces of the hotel, one of the spaces was almost completely restored the Sky Bar sector, and much of plant rooms. At this moment we are working to complete the sector and the SPA rooms on the fifth floor. Likewise, we thank you for your return again, is really very useful for further improvement.
It is true that in the vicinity of the Hotel in the evening hours, is often neglected a bit, for lack of lighting and cleaning, but unfortunately this situation is not directly dependent on us to solve it, but I can convey that we are making efforts for to the authorities of the City of Buenos Aires in order to achieve a better service for Hygiene and Enlightenment.
We hope to see you soon in Buenos Aires Axel, and continue to enjoy our services and activities that develop to their satisfaction.
