This is the worst place I have ever stayed. I stayed for 9 days, and during this time my bedsheets were changed once - and even that was only because the maid thought I was moving out! I asked the maid to change my sheets more often, and she just shot me an angry look.
The bed frames are frail, and feel like they are about to collapse when sleeping on the top bunk. The woodwork is old and during my stay there were metal frames hanging out of the stairpoles (major health hazard). The internet is extremely slow and I had several dropped calls on Skype. The staff was rude, and the owner did not even pretend to listen to any request - acting as if we were more a burden than a guest.
The one redeeming quality of Palermo House is the location - it is right in the middle of Palermo, one of Buenos Aires' best sections. Still, there are other hostels in Palermo, at the same price range and socialability level, with far cleaner facilities and much friendlier staff.
A friend of mine knows the owner of PH, and recommended I stay down there. I had heard great things about this place, and yes it is a youth hostel but geez at least change the bedsheets! I have stayed at hostels in Central America and Cairns Australia and have never seen anything this nasty. When I told my friend what this place was really like, my friend apologized profusely.
The cherry on top came when I checked out. I had booked a 9-day stay via the internet for a good price. Upon checkout, I was told I had to pay almost US$50 more - because the "internet special" was only good for a few days and I would have to pay the full rate the rest of the time. When I said that was rediculous, the owner threatened to call the police.
I rarely give 1-star reviews, and this place fully deserves it!!!
