“Needs a lot of work”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This was the only hostel we could book when we arrived in Palermo, and we found out why.
The staff are lovely and really helpful and I feel for them wotking in such a dump, they have tried to make it better but the place is in a terrible state of disrepair and the owners should be ashamed of what they have allowed such a nice old colonial building to become. The roof leaked as though it wasn't there, and we had a big storm while we stayed, the plaster is coming off the walls, the showers are cold most of the time, the private rooms all use the same key so there is no security inside the building, the curtains in the rooms don't fit so anyone passing can look in, there is no noise suppression so any sound carries throughout the building, and the beds are stained and quite unpleasant looking.
I think if you are on your own and a party goer this actually might be a great place due mainly to the staff, but if you aren't stay away.

“Stay somewhere else!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

This is the worst hostel I have ever stayed at, even though it's the only one. The hostel is in a good location, but that's about the only good thing about this place. Once you get inside, it's like you're going back in time or maybe to like a third world country. The bathrooms were dirty, the rooms were small, and there were bedbugs or some other insects in every room. The only part that was good on the inside is the lounge upstairs. It's a good place to hang out, there is a tv, internet (really slow) and a phone that you can use. However, a lot of people smoke there, so that was another negative for me. If you don't want to breathe in second hand smoke, just go downstairs to the bookstore/cafe next door...it's a nice alternative if you want to stay close to the hostel.Like I said before, it's in a good location: close to shops/restaurants and bars. The subsway is just a few blocks away, but you can also catch the bus or a taxi as an alternative (all relatively cheap).
If you like to go to sleep early, this is not the place for you to stay. People ussually start going out around 1 or 2 at night so it gets noisy, and come back around 8 in the morning.
I'm surprised that the health department hasnt shut this place down.
Overall, this is a horrible hostel and doesn't even deserve one star ratimng.

“9 Dorm Beds in a Shoebox- STAY AWAY!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2011

This hostel was awful. 9 dorm beds were crammed in a room that was too small for even 4. The hostel was filthy and felt totally seedy. I think the only people staying there were completely high all day long and that is the only reason the could tolerate it. BA is a beautiful city with far better budget options.

“Bed bugs, dirty living area and unhelpful staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2011

I was bitten by bugs for 3 nights despite swapping beds. Another girl was covered all over her face from one night. The lounge area could be great but was really dirty. There was an untrained dog which wasnt walked, so there was dog poo on the balcony and sometimes nipped guests. The staff were generally unhelpful. Swedish receptionist had no information on how to get to the most basic of tourist sites. Bunk beds are triple so you cant approach sitting up.Go eslewhere!

“Horrible - glad they lost me reservation so that I was forced to look for th else”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

On arrival the reception guy was not able to find my reservation that was has been confirmed by mail just three days earlier.

After all this was a lucky fact, as I would have liked to stay there anyway.
- Lazy, unorganied staff
- Strange, even a bit hostile atmosphere - many guest dranken at at 10am
- Dirty overall impression
