We stayed in Hotel Lyon after leaving a very beautiful B & B in Santiago, Chile. We had traveled and got there late at night and when the very nice young man took us to our room we were really disappointed. It is the 1st time I ever felt let down by my fellow trip advisors who had rated it better. My husband said it was a "sh-- hole" and I got online to see if we could find somewhere else. We ended up staying 4 nights, our entire trip, there. The staff was a mixed bag, 2 gentlemen very nice and accommodating and one woman, the same, but 2 older men who were just cold-stern, not kind or warm or gracious at all. The breakfast was pretty bad. The hotel is very outdated and just kind of yucky. We found some hair in our bathroom-not ours... I don't know. I consider myself pretty easy going about where I stay but there was just nothing great or good about this place other than the room was large. We had a living room area that was big and an extra room which we didn't need. But a perfect example of the place was when we got into our room, there was a very old cover on the bed that had grease stains all over it. Big spots. They are sitting on a jewel because it is so spacious and old and could be fantastic if they put some money into it. The elevator is the oldest I have ever been on and I took the stairs for the few first days there because I was sure it was going to break but then I gave in and it never did break. When we pulled up I asked the taxi driver if Hotel Lyon was a good place and he said, so so. Kept coming back to that...
The internet when down when were were leaving so we didn't know that our flight had changed. I asked the front desk about the internet and they said it was down-sort of like-so what. The air conditioner was loud and then broke and they never fixed it while we were there even though we asked, it was hot and the windows seemed to not open but we finally were able to open them. We had a huge problem with the safe and my husband asked to change rooms but they said that we couldn't. The sweet desk guy and gal helped me for quite awhile until we got the safe worked out though. The toilet flusher on the wall would get stuck and the toilet kept flushing and flushing. If you hit it a little it would stop but I was very fearful that it would get jammed and we would be stuck in that room as it flushed very loudly all day and night. It didn't though, just jammed a lot.
There's just sort of this "whatever" feel without any pride. As I said though, there were two very great guys who worked at the front desk so if you got them it felt different.
