“My perfect introduction to Buenos Aires”

I usually prefer when traveling solo to stay in an apartment rental, but as I did not know the city at all, and had come to dance, I was drawn to this B&B for its location and its name. I think that if I had not made this wise decision, I would not have had the amazing trip that I did. Lina took me out personally to my first tango on the first night of my stay, introduced me into the culture and her friends and thus assured that the rest of my trip was a success. My room was charming and I met the most helpful and amazing people in my fellow guests. The morning belly dancing lessons were an added bonus. As a solo female traveler, I don't know what I would have done without the friendship and guidance I found in Lina, her staff and my fellow guests.

“Will come back”

This was a great find because of the price and location. We felt safe because entry to the place was secure. Our rooms were cozy. We stayed in two rooms during our stay...I enjoyed the first one better because of the bigger bathroom and it was closer to the patio. It had a cozier feel to it. The second room felt a little bit stuffy and even with what I assume to be double-paned windows, we could still hear the foot and car traffic outside.

This place is about 2 blocks away from a Subte station, which was convenient. Many taxis were also available in front of the building or around the corner. There were many restaurants and mini-grocery stores nearby. Plaza Dorrego was a comfortable walk from here, so that was nice when we visited the weekend fair.

Breakfast is very simple and basic --- bread, croissant, butter, cheese, coffee, tea and juice. But then again for the price per night, I felt it was fair.

If I have the opportunity to come back to Buenos Aires, this will be on my list for a repeat stay...definitely a good recommendation from Frommer's.

“This ranks in my top 3 favorite places of all time”

I can´t say enough good things about Lina´s Tango Guesthouse. I had the best time here. What a great place for a single female traveler to stay.

This small, extremely friendly, charming and comfortable bed and breakfast is an absolute delight. Don´t be fooled by the non-descript front entry. Inside is an oasis of friendly comfort and a charming, old fashioned interior. Rooms open directly onto an open courtyard, complete with full grown trees (and songbirds in the morning). A long, stately picnic table, bench and mural, nightlights across the patio, and a wrought iron tower of old tango shoes add a lot of charm. There is a compact but fully functional kitchen off the courtyard for the guests to use. There is enough space in the courtyard to have a party and dance, and sometimes that is exactly what happens. I meant to stay a few days and stayed a month! Met some wonderful people during my stay from around the world.

Upstairs is a communal living room / dining room that can be quickly transformed into a private dance or massage studio upon request. Lina has contacts and can line up lessons and treatments of all sorts if you want. She even has new, spare pairs of dancing shoes you can borrow for your tango lessons.

Lina and Lujan run the show here, and they both are extremely helpful and knowledeable, giving excellent advice and the insider´s track on the best (and most affordable) options for tango dancing, music, restaurants and attractions.

Lina always offers to take you with her to a local Milonga (Tango dance hall) for a personal and comprehensive explanation of the tango scene in Buenos Aires. This is a bonus for those that already know how to tango, and for those new to the whole scene. It is also a secure and wonderful way to experience Buenos Aires as a solo female traveler.

I would highly, highly recommend this place. It´s a great value for the money.

“Incredible value, fun people - a great place to stay.”

This place isn't for everyone. It doesn't provide tons of privacy. The mattresses aren't incredibly comfortable. However, we couldn't have been happier with our stay. If you're interested in tango, or you want to see Buenos Aires without spending tons of money on a hotel, this is the place for you.

When you stay at Lina's, you feel like you're staying in a friend's guest bedroom. You eat breakfast in a room just off of Lina's kitchen, where she may or may not be eating breakfast as well. Lina invite us to a party she was having, which allowed us to meet interesting local people as well as people from around the world. Perhaps the greatest picture of our experience was our departure - as we pulled away in our taxi, four people stood on the sidewalk waving us goodbye.

If you're used to luxury accommodations, you'll be dissatisfied with Lina's. But if you're interested in a lively, fun, and "local" experience, you'll love Lina's.

“Good value, but disappointing”

Frommer's rated this as 3 stars and one $ - you never find that combination, so we were psyched to stay at Lina's. Location in San Telmo is fantastic, and Lujan the manager is wonderful. Room was fine: clean, bright, somewhat charming. Interesting people stay here, including lots who come here to learn tango. When we were shown our room, we were surprised not only that our private bathroom wasn't ensuite (our fault for not checking), but also that the manager asked if it was OK that we SHARE the bathroom! She put it in such a way that we said yes. Later at the Sat. night tango party (see below) other people used it as well! We were out and came back to find this out. As for the party...it didn't end until 2 a.m., and it was right next to our room! Lina didn't care a whit that we were exhausted and wanted to sleep. So, though the price was great ($50 for a double) we left 3 days early and went to the Tryp Hotel, a fabulous place for $86/night. When I complained that one of the reasons we were leaving was because our room and bathroom hadn't been cleaned, the manager said "well, did you ask the housekeeper to clean it?" Why would we have needed to do that - and no one told us that in any case. Arghh!
