We stayed here 5 nights while sight seeing in Buenos Aires in route to Mendoza's wine country on a SATT recommendation. We walked the streets late each night and had no problems. We saw many local couples with children walking and having late night coffee. It is a working class neighborhood, close to the government buildings and right off several major streets. They did lock the front door at night and had a local police sergeant for security, which was better than a "rent a cop." One of the two elevators worked and work was being done on both the other elevator and the lobby, but this posed no real problem. There was no noticable noise as they seemed to be fitting pre cut marble rather than using hammers and such. The rooms were clean and well serviced. Breakfast was pretty much what you get on the Continent, lots of good coffee, rolls, bread, cerial, juice extract, good selection of fruit and the normal offering. There was a wedding reception but I don't know if they used the restaurant cooks. We found the manager (Max) to be helpful and friendly, though the night shift spoke less English, but then again, we were in their country. My cross between Madrid Spanish and Tex-Mex did us well. The rooms are very large and have a limited kitchen. There was a grocery right across the street with good selection of wine and beer. AC worked well as did the TV and hot water. There were litterly dozens of good restaurants within three blocks, several wine bars were also close. Max, the day manager, gave us some good tips for restaurants where the locals go. We found most of the restaurants occupied by locals rather than tourists, but English language menus were normally available. Lots of good coffee bars and pastry shops were also close. This did not seem a tourist area, which we found refreshing in the restaurants. The prices were comfortably low for really excellent Argentina and Italian dishes, the service good and the wine selections wonderful. We would stay here again.
