My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in Jan. 2012 and really liked the location of the Art Hotel and convenience of walking to explore Recoleta & nearby neighbourhoods, as well as proximity to the Subte.
Our room was the 'small and cosy' one and it was a bit cramped for a 2 night stay. The bed was comfortable, however, I'm not a fan of the double open ended pillow cases which they use and which leave both ends of the pillows exposed. The bathroom was the smallest I've had in a hotel room as was the tiny sink in it. The shower & water pressure were good, but the water drained slowly. A very small shelf provided room for a few toiletries...the rest had to stay with our luggage in the bedroom area. A small closet with a metal door provided room for some storage. With the small size of the room, the window looking into an exterior enclosed corridor, metal closet door, concrete floor in the bathroom, basic decor, basic bed linens ...the accommodations were not all that appealing to us. The one outstanding feature was the curved wooden door at the entrance to the room. Our room was quiet, which we appreciated after an overnight flight to BA.
The breakfast was quite good, with a nice selection of food. The eating area was quiet both days that we were there, with only us and another table occupied each day.
On our return from Patagonia we stayed at the Fierro Hotel which we loved and would stay at again, but the trade off is is that it is more expensive than the A hotel, and as it's in Palermo Hollywood, not as convenient/interesting location as the Art Hotel.
