“Great location, good breakfast, adequate room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in Jan. 2012 and really liked the location of the Art Hotel and convenience of walking to explore Recoleta & nearby neighbourhoods, as well as proximity to the Subte.

Our room was the 'small and cosy' one and it was a bit cramped for a 2 night stay. The bed was comfortable, however, I'm not a fan of the double open ended pillow cases which they use and which leave both ends of the pillows exposed. The bathroom was the smallest I've had in a hotel room as was the tiny sink in it. The shower & water pressure were good, but the water drained slowly. A very small shelf provided room for a few toiletries...the rest had to stay with our luggage in the bedroom area. A small closet with a metal door provided room for some storage. With the small size of the room, the window looking into an exterior enclosed corridor, metal closet door, concrete floor in the bathroom, basic decor, basic bed linens ...the accommodations were not all that appealing to us. The one outstanding feature was the curved wooden door at the entrance to the room. Our room was quiet, which we appreciated after an overnight flight to BA.

The breakfast was quite good, with a nice selection of food. The eating area was quiet both days that we were there, with only us and another table occupied each day.

On our return from Patagonia we stayed at the Fierro Hotel which we loved and would stay at again, but the trade off is is that it is more expensive than the A hotel, and as it's in Palermo Hollywood, not as convenient/interesting location as the Art Hotel.

Room Tip: Consider upgrading to a larger room. We were on a package deal as part of our BA/Patagonia trip, so...

“Great art show, cool place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed at this Art Hotel in November 2011 at the end of two weeks in Argentina. The night I arrived there was a gallery opening in the lobby downstairs. As a guest, I was of course invited. It was great to meet the artists and rub elbows with the art community of Buenos Aires, although unfortunately my Spanish language skills were not good enough to have very in debth artsy conversations. But I enjoyed the free red wine and canapes and the art was very nice, even to my untrained eye.

My room at the hotel was very tiny (cozy, is how they describe it). It was perfect for one though it might be a little cramped for two if you both have a lot of luggage. The staff could not have been more helpful, particularly when my transport to a planned day at an Estancia never arrived. There is a rooftop deck that I wish I had discovered my first night, since it was jusst lovely and would have been perfect for a picnic dinner.

I would really love to return to this hotel. It was a little expensive for my budget trip (AR$332 a night on Booking.com), but it was totally worth it.

“Hotel Fails to Meet Expectations and Deliver a High Level of Customer Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This hotel is based in a beautiful old building with an art gallery downstairs. Whilst being full of charm and well located two blocks from a sub-way in Recoleta, we were disappointed by the service, particularly at these prices. My partner and I arrived for our second stay at the hotel with a lot of luggage from our 3 weeks in Argentina: the front desk staff barely greeted us and simply watched without once offering to help whilst we struggled to get our luggage to our room on the 5th floor. This made a shocking first impression: after complaining, to the hotel’s credit, they offered us a bottle of champagne. Some of the front desk staff were also helpful on other occasions so perhaps this was simply an ‘off’ day but left a bad after-taste. The hotel also offers no food or drink service outside of breakfast time (apart from a mini-bar in the room) and we found it problematic that we could not get tea or coffee when we wanted it in the evening from the hotel – simply having a tea or coffee point would solve this problem for guests. The breakfast we also found very basic and nothing special: croissants did not taste fresh (and from a packet), yoghurt was watery and milk on one of the days sour. The beautiful upper floor Jacuzzi space also looked like limited attention was paid to up-keep with an air of decay and lack of attempt to beautify it for guests. Rooms are comfortable and clean: the small and cozy we had on our first stay was perfectly adequate; the king room on the second stay we found over-priced and please note only has a queen-sized and not a king-sized bed despite the name. All in all, our feeling is that this hotel has huge potential if run properly and with a sincere desire to please guests: at present, it is not fully up to scratch for the price and level of accommodation promised.

Room Tip: Small and Cozy is adequate

“Comfortable, affordable hotel in Recoleta”

Great restaurants nearby and a short walk to the Subte (subway). Staff was extremely helpful with excellent English. Rooms are tiny (ours was a tall as it was wide) but attractively furnished. Good hot showers and generous breakfast buffet. Only two very slow elevators, so be prepared to wait or take the stairs.

“Peaceful and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I stayed recently on trips in and out of Buenos Aires. The city is hot, noisy and busy so having this peaceful sanctuary was very welcome. The front desk were friendly, approachable and very helpful. My bedrooms were quiet, queen sized bed on one occasion and everything you need to compliment your stay. Recoleta is a safe neighbourhood, close to the centre but in a quiet upmarket district. Breakfasts were ample with good continental choice and fresh fruit.
