The Claridge is one of those hotels that looks and feels like it has seen much better days. The exterior and lobby are charming, reminiscent of some London properties. The lobby bar is attractive in an ”old world” sense. However, this is pretty much where the old charm ends and the modern-day deficiencies begin. The hotel rooms are quite outdated and lack any modern comforts, though bathrooms have been fully and beautifully redone. The beds are very low and not particularly comfortable. While this may sound strange, the walls are upholstered. By this I don't mean that they have wallpaper, but thick fabric that holds dust and is impossible to clean. The walls almost seem cushioned, but the effect is not clean or appealing. The service is also not up to par, with staff that is not particularly friendly or well trained. After a long day of meetings, I returned to my room at 9pm to find that it had not been cleaned. Fortunately, the night housekeeper, who was the friendliest staff member, was getting ready to leave but still came to clean my room. I'm not sure what solution they would have offered had she left for the night. The hotel's best feature is its location just a block off of Calle Florida, the downtown area's famous pedestrian mall. The hotel is basic and has good rates, so stay there if budget and location are your main considerations. Otherwise, there are many other charming proerties in Buenos Aires at very similar rates and with much more comfort and service.
