“Bad, bad service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

Although the hotel looks fancy when you first stare at it, when you finally come into your room (our check-in took 3 hours) you realize it is old.

The best is the location, near restaurants, cafes, bars and the zoo, and also the size os the room (the one I stayed was big).

The worst problem is the staff that doesn't care about the guests.

“Recommend against staying here.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011 via mobile

I am currently staying in this hotel right now, and I am writing this review out of frustration for the terrible experience that I have had here. I am only staying here one night, but it's has been more than enough. The service staff are rude, and the condition of the hotel is very bad.

It is 4.30 am now, and the hot water valve has been broken for several hours, so that the hot water in the shower must run all the time. This is noisy, and the hotel staff could not do anything about it. They will probably look at it in the morning, after which more than 10000 gallons and lots more in heating energy have already been wasted down the drain They offered to allow us to change rooms, but I must leave in just a few hours to the airport so it is not worth it. This is not to mention that it is simply a waste of water.

The hotel staff also did not know that I was coming. Apparently the online booking was not transferred to the hotel's system, so I had to send to use my iPhone to forward the email to prove I had the reservation. This is utterly awful service, in an awfully old hotel that would be better utilized once it's demolished and turned into a decent Marriott or other local hotel brand.

“There are way better options...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2010

Because our favorite hotel was booked for one night, we need an alternative hotel. In a similar price class, not too far away, we found this hotel and booked it. We first called the hotel and asked for the rate, this turned out to be 20 dollars more than the rate on booking, so we booked it through booking. Upon arrival there was no key available so we had to go up to our room and wait for somebody from housekeeping. The room was not a room, but more like an apartment. It did not look clean, but the bed and bathroom seemed decent.

We went downstairs again to ask for the key, but it still was not available. We had to wait for a housekeeper again, luckily they arranged us a key. Later on, we discovered that one of the balcony doors could not be properly closed. Even though we were on the 14th floor, it did make me feel a bit uncomfortable. We slept well and the shower was ok. Breakfast was busy, we had to look for an available table, but it was ok.

All in all, this was our worst experience in Argentina. It was our most expensive hotel, but both the service and the room were the least of the hotels we have stayed in. We do not recommend this hotel.

“great location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights when we came for some work and a conference. Our host booked it for us as it was 3 blocks away from her home. They first put us in room 1406 which was directly across from the elevator - this room must have been a designated smoking room because it was pretty musty - we requested a room change and we got moved to room 1410. Room 1410 is a two bedroom with two bathroom and kitchen (crazily enough, it's about the size of our condo back home :)

The room is not luxurious by any means, but we found our bed to be very comfortable. When I looked at the bed, I didn't have great expectations, but the mattress was surprisingly soft and supportive. Yes, the bathrooms aren't big, but we thought given the heavy European influence in Buenos Aires, we didn't expect big bathrooms (we have had MUCH smaller!). Our room was very clean, the sheets were crisp and clean, the towels were very good quality. The furniture in the living room was VERY basic, but we didn't plan to stay around the hotel that much so for the few hours we spent on the couch, it was completely adequate (we were too busy having amazing dinners and going to tangos).

The breakfast was also pretty basic, eggs, sausage, bread for toast, ham, cheese, cereals, croissants. They had these scones with sugar on top that were amazingly delicious - I'm not a cookie person, but I had to have one of these every day - loved them! We discovered about halfway through our trip that we could order cappuccinos and they would just put them on our room bill, they were awesome. The food was definitely of good quality, just not as exciting after 10 days of it, but we were happy.

The location is excellent! Our host gave us a tour of the neighborhood the first day we were there and pointed out all of her favorite restaurants, plus her favorite shopping areas. We had the most amazing dinners - the restaurant Rio Alba was fantastic and just one block away, in addition to their great meats, we had delicious arugula salads. We were also 3 blocks from the Palermo park and were there 5 times running in the morning, that was fabulous!

We found everyone at the hotel to be very friendly, seeing them in the hallways, at the front desk, getting directions, currency exchange etc. We found people in Buenos Aires, in general, to be exceptionally friendly. People commented on feelings of safety at this hotel. We felt completely safe - they have signs posted about putting your valuables in a safe which they provide in the room and at the front desk. We felt that our property and ourselves were very safe. We weren't overly fond of Santa Fey avenue and our street for those few blocks, but otherwise felt very good in our neighborhood.

People commented on the elevators - they do have 4 elevators and if there is a conference on at the hotel, you can wait quite a while for the elevator. Yes, the elevators are small, but that size is very typical outside of north america.

We used the Sauna on the second last day which was amazing, and also booked an hour massage in the spa, it was fantastic, the kind young lady worked out all of my knots in my back - totally worth it! I wish we could have gone for 2 hours each :)

We would go back, and definitely get our room 1410 again.
