Great location, staff very very friendly, great room. The only problem we saw in there was the air conditioning because it stopped working for 2 nights, from 8 that we stayed there. Oh yes, and the pool. It's not in the hotel, but 5 blocks away, in a club. They don't offer driving... But we recommmend Loi Suites Esmeralda, it's a very nice place!!!

This was perfect for our family. Comes with a full kitchen that we didn't really use but appreciated nonetheless. You can't beat the location and the suite was so comfortable and clean. Will definitely return and recommend it to friends. Staff could brush up on their english as there was some confusion but overall we loved it. Good breakfast and excellent location.

In January 2008, the spouse and I spent 18 days at the Loi Suites Esmeralda, in a 1 bedroom with full kitchen -- perfect. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The rooms are clean, the breakfast is quite good. Location is central -- subway(easy to navigate), American Express(fees on exchanging US traveler's cheques to US dollars), airlines(for confirmation), a money exchange(no fees, official rate on US dollars) all within 1 block or so. Around the corner you have a mini-market("Supermercado") where you can get everything for any meals you want to make -- lunch was always in our room -- cold cuts, cheese, bread, olives, wine...around $7. For some suppers, we went 6 blocks down Esmeralda street to Lavallee(pedestrian street).. Lots of restaurants with 'specials' -- small steak(good for us), fries or salad, large beer, tip, never more than $15 for two. There are many restaurants around but the prices have skyrocketed. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We have no reservations in recommending it.

Decent hotel in busy city district. Service is outstanding; Marina who operates both the front desk/concierge is top notch. Book tours with her for sure; price is right, excellent value for tours and hotel. Only negative is that it is a busy area thus traffic is 24/7 and traffic noise is 24/7. I would return for sure; maybe stay on 9 Julio Ave with a room away from the busy street; then go to the Delta River area for a classic tourist visit. One thing to be sure, don't change money at the first desk you come to outside of customs (there is a bank open after you clear immigrations and the rate is BETTER! Also, radio taxi's and private cars are the way to go both leaving the airport and within the city (very safe, price is fixed, no gouging!) Subway is busy but safe and CHEAP; very easy to navigate. Shopping; much of it around town; good deals on some leather purchases; otherwise not much for touristic purchases outside of rhodocristo stones (which you NOT find cheap at the duty free store at the airport, so buy it in the city but note, the silver there isn't very good quality, so plan on having the item reset at home.) People are kind and courteous (many understand English and about 10% speak it,) friendly and helpful overall in the city; far safer to travel here than Rio De Janeiro (which I would not return to or recommend unless traveling with body guards!) Food is ok; a bit of a challenge for non-spanish speakers however. Pollution is in control and the sky is blue! Enjoy this historic city!
