I booked Hotels.com for three nights at Dazzler Arroyo and after I read the not so good reviews on Trip Advisor and Hotels.com about this hotel, I immediately tried to cancel it....30 min. after booking the place. Hotels.com would not refund or gave me an option to select a different hotel. I was stuck!! So, I tried to have a positive mind and went to Buenos Aires, my first trip there. When I got there, I asked the front desk (lady), if it was possible to book extra 3 nights if I liked the area, and she said yes. I was a woman travelling alone and wanted to check the area to make sure it was safe walking, etc. I checked in on a Wed. and this was a Halloween weekend and didn't think Argentina celebrated it. That first night my room window faced the street and it was the noisiest. Street drunks yelling and screaming woke me up several times and decided in the morning I should change to another room that would be quieter. In the morning, I asked to switch and they said it was fully booked. Funny...as I remember asking Hotels.com if they thought rooms would be available if I decided to stay few more days. And they said there were plenty of rooms available and shouldn't be a problem. The breakfast that is included in your room rate is probably the finest thing about Dazzler. I paid $95 per night for those 3 days. And the buffet was freshly made every morning and was a delight. The price of the dinner at this tiny restaurant in the hotel was also great, although there is not much of a selection. I could have booked at 4 stars hotel but they were all fully booked with conventions and special events and ended up settling at this 3 star hotel.
The disappointing experience of all was that the front desk lady with no emotions whatsoever (no personality) said room was not available and would let me know if there was any cancellation. Every morning, I asked, and their answer was no room available. On the last night, I asked Martin, who was the night reception clerk. He said there is a room available and he said that it would be $95 a night, and would that be okay? I said, "Brilliant, and thank you". Thinking I was set for another 3 nights, I was ecstatic. Got to know the area, walking around, going on day trips, etc., and so what if the street was noisy at night, at least the great breakfast was included. I could deal with that!!! The following morning, the reception (the lady) said that Martin made a mistake and there is no room available What??? I was delirious...what was going on?? Since check out was for 12 and it was already 9 am, I quickly logged on to Hotels.com and started my search. There I see that Dazzler Arroyo, a 3 star hotel was listing their weekend rate at $440.00 US per night. Oh my.... So that was it....they had rooms but they wanted more money for it! I was able to book at Sheraton Buenos Aires 4 1/2 star hotel for $180 US for 3 nights. I asked Ariel, the porter to come to my room to pick my luggage and explained to him what was going on. Ariel has been so attentive by booking me tours and such a nice, very reliable person. He was an asset to the hotel. I explained to Ariel that I have had dinner everynight with a bottle of wine at Dazzler, bringing in business and rooms is not available for extra days because they are listed in Hotels.com website for room rate at $440 US. I showed that page to him and he was shocked as well. Why?? Anyone who pays that rate and comes to Dazzler would be appalled and shocked that it barely is close to a 3 star hotel.
My move to Sheraton Buenos Aires was like night and day compared to Dazzler. Although, I didn't get my buffet, I was happy to not be paying more. Dazzler Arroyo should wake up and not try to be greedy! They should cherish their clientele and strive to get their return customers ratio up. If you are a small boutique hotel....stay that way. Don't try to compete with other great hotels....you're not great. For this reason, I will not return ever to Dazzler Arroyo. Next time, I will try the Palermo area. I heard of great 3 star small boutique hotels with great price, ambiance, and service with return customers raving. Do your homework by researching the area and compare prices. It would be worth the time. I spent my one last night at Sheraton Libertador (I used my Starwood award points) where few of my friends attending a convention were staying. I love that place. It was in the heart of downtown shopping and everyone working there was very personable, enthusiastic and service oriented. They strive to excel in customer service and wanted me to come back and stay with them again. That's what I wanted to hear!! Dazzler should learn from this.
