On a recent trip to Argentina, we were given a room at Hotel Presidente when Aerolineas Argentinas abruptly canceled all domestic flights, including our flight from Buenos Aires to Iguazu. We didn't know anything about the hotel, but we imagined that with a name like Hotel Presidente and with the inconvenience that Aerolineas Argentinas had caused us during our vacation, that it had to be an amazing place.
At around midnight, we were bused from the airport to Hotel Presidente where we had to wait for quite some time to be given the keys to our room (apparently due to some confusion with the arrangements the airline had made with the hotel).
When we finally got to our room, it was as if we had stepped back in time. We couldn't help but to initially giggle because we had managed to really work up our expectations, but then the disappointment kicked in. The room was dingy and the decor was beyond outdated, but I suppose that at least it was clean (hence the 2 stars, instead of 1).
We had also been given vouchers for a meal at the hotel restaurant, which we used at about 1am. In all fairness, it was late and they probably had to open the restaurant especially for us, but the meal was yet another disappointment.
Fortunately, our flight had been scheduled for first thing in the morning, so we got about 3 or 4 hours of sleep and thankfully, that was it for our stay at Hotel Presidente.
I would have been very upset if I had booked this hotel and actually paid for it, but at least we had somewhere safe and clean to sleep that night.
