“dishonest hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2009

We prepaid the hotel and when we arrived and wanted to pay extra for a larger room that slept 3, we were told by the manager that they did not have a room for 3 people and that we had to get an extra single room. We had paid $100,00 a night for a double and the manager offered us Argentine rates instead of the Gringo rates. The total came to $100,00 for 2 nights plus 21% room tax. Upon check out we were presented with a bill twice the agreed price.I refused to pay that amount and after numeroes phone calls to different superiors we settled our dispute for the original agreed price and paid by credit card. When we arrived back in the States we found out the hotel had billed us a second time on a different credit card for the same amount. With no signature and no approval on my part this transaction was fraudulent.

“Comfortable hotel in Buenos Aires”

Me and my husband spent 4 nights in Imperial Park Hotel. The hotel is well located and we could walk to many tourist attractions nearby. But taxis in Buenos Aires are very cheap and we would not hesitate to take one when we needed to go a little farther away. The lobby was very nice. We stayed in a room on the 10th floor facing Hipolito Yrigoyen street. Not the best view but we could see some of 9 de Julio Avenue and with soundproof windows, we heard no noise whatsoever. The room was good sized (not very large but also not too small), the air conditioning was nice, TV had lots of channels and bed was good too. The bathroom was a little small but very clean, with good water pressure. The only thing I didn't like was the towels. They were very small and worn-out. Breakfast was very nice. Staff was not so kind but arranged us city tour, tango show and transportation back to the airport. They helped when we needed. Overall, a good place to stay.

“Small, but comfortable rooms close to the City Center”

The hotel is located basically at the intersection of Avenida de Mayo and 9 of Julio. You can walk to Florida Street (pedestrian shopping area), San Telmo, etc. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance and a full-service grocery store a block away.

The rooms are on the small size and are only queen sized beds, not king. The bathrooms are very small with bidets and only have shower stalls (no tubs). Even though we wanted a non-smoking room, it still smelled a bit stale (but nothing to cry about). There is a complimentary in-room safe. The rooms are far from luxurious; it is comparable to a Marriott Courtyard in U.S. standards ... pretty basic. For US$100, I expected the rooms to be a bit nicer. If you are a light sleeper, beware ... there is tons of auto traffic along 9 de Julio.

The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. The inclusive buffet breakfast is good. The complimentary internet access in the business center is great ... although it could be slow at times.

  • Liked — Close proximity to city center
  • Disliked — Rooms were very basic.

“Clean and tasteful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2006

Although the Imperial Park Hotel is officially located at the cross section of Lima and Hipolito Yrigoyen, users should keep in mind that Lima parallels Ave. 9 de Julio (which many local like to boast as the widest street in the world) and is only separated from it by a strip of sidewalk. Also, Ave. de Mayo, another major street, is just a block away, which places the hotel at a convenient (mostly for business people), if noisy and hectic, location.

The hotel is relatively small and decorated tastefully. Front desk staff can be helpful. Rooms overlook the rear (an unpleasing view of the roofs of lower buildings), the side over Hipolito (views of offices), or Ave. 9 de Julio. I believe that the rooms are climate-controlled, so they are usually quite comfortable. The bathrooms have heated floors and lighting is motion-sensitive. Beds are comfy and the breakfast, which is included in the rate, is buffet-style and quite good. The hotel offers free wireless in the lobby, but it's iffy.

Two metro stops are located 1-2 blocks away, although taxis are reliable and inexpensive. Nearby eateries are rather uninteresting, although La Continental on Ave. de Mayo is good for empanadas. Otherwise, the most interesting sites, good shopping, and delicious restaurants are in other neighborhoods.

Our accommodations were arranged by a travel agent, so I'm unsure about hotel rates. I did some searching, however, and found rates between USD$80-$130 for doubles. Depending on your needs, the hotel is a good value. Clean, tasteful, and safe.
