I stayed at El Conquistador for 8 days in August 2010. I was traveling alone and was very happy when I arrived at this hotel after a hectic cab ride through downtown Buenos Aires. The hotel has everything you need - a bar, a restaurant, friendly staff and internet access. The breakfast in the AM is great and served in the renovated top floor of the hotel which gets plenty of sunlight and is a great way to start the day.
I thought the location was fantastic as well. It could be loud at night at times, but you are in a city. I also like to be in the middle of everything. I could walk (and did) to Plaza de Mayo, El congreso and Recoleta. Although, the cabs are super cheap, so don't hesitate to take one!
The staff at the hotel spoke perfect English and were very helpful. There is a little supermarket across the street which has little items that you may have forgotten at home (razors, batteries).
