“Good location, but rooms at lower floors were terrible and noisy!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

Buenos Aires is a fantastic and romantic city. We just loved it! There are great restaurants everywhere and food is really cheap and delicious. Prefer restaurants where argentinians go and hotels in the center of town, cause you can take a cab at very cheap prices (just have to check at the back of the driver's seat whether they have a kind of "cab's license" and pay attention when they give the change cause fake money is very common).
Castelar hotel is very well located and right across the street there's a fantastic seafood restaurant where they serve "paella" at about U$30.
We only had problems at Castelar Hotel cause they gave us a room on the second floor, which was really dark (we could only see internal walls of the hotel from the room window) and in the early morning it was just too noisy. We complained to the hotel staff several times but they've insisted they had no other rooms available. Only on the last day of our trip they gave us a room on the seventh floor where we could sleep nicely.
Otherwise, breakfast was terrific! Try the "media lunas" with "dulce de leche"!

“Careful what you get!”

I got a room hotel for very cheap on the booking.com website (if I recall correctly, I paid $350 for a double for 5 nights). I would have never gone to a such a cheap hotel, but the standard prices were much higher ($150/night) and the hotel is a 4 star with spa services, so I just thought I was lucky. The hotel is ok, kind of old style but I was told that's typical in Buenos Aires. But but but.. we had bedbugs in our bed!! It was definitely awful. We complained, and they were acting as if it was not such a big deal...In the end we got to move to a different room, but could not sleep being afraid we had those bugs going all over us. Disgusting!

“HORRIBLE! NEVER AGAIN!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2010

This hotel was a disaster! the room was disgusting, old, and very very small. The hotel has 80 years old, not difficult to notice it. We had a very small window in the room but very hight so no view, and the window was close to the kitchen of the hotel , so impossible to open the window. The air conditioning was so dirty so we preferred not used it. The staff was rude, and useless . We didn t take the breakfast (which was included) because we wanted to leave this nightmare asap! The price (80$) is very expensive for this hotel. Next time we will choose a B&B. We don t recommend this hotel, it was definitively the worst in our life!

“just one thing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

I stayed there a week ago with my husband, and the hotel is great, the bathroom kind of small, but I guess you get what you pay, or what you were to pay, we reserved the room using easy click travel, at the beginning we received the in process confirmation and 2 days after the confirm mail where it said our card was charged and everything was OK, and when got to the hotel, after checking in and going out for a walk, we were told that the agency canceled the reservation because the credit card didn't go trough and that we had to pay them, of course with was a lot more than we expected to pay with the NOT easy click travel, I don´t know if it is an arrangement between hotel and agency, but I think it was not a good thing to do to their guests, even a friend from Buenos Aires called a few hours before to make sure everything was fine, and they did not tell him anything, they showed us an email they got from the operation agent that got a day before!!! so they knew it already by the time we got there, at the end they made us a "discount" and we decided to say there. If it weren't because of that I would highly recommended, because the place is nice, breakfast really good, nice staff, and great location, so if you there, just make sure everything is fine!

“very smart reception”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

The hotel is 10 minutes' walk from plaza de Mayo, so its plus is certainly its position. From there you can easily get a taxi or a bus to visit Buenos Aires. Florida is less than10 minutes'walk. we got a comfortable and clean room. Breakfast is abundant. there is also free wifi and a couple of computers to access internet. the reception and the breakfast room are very elegant
