“Good location and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2007

Found in Footprint guidebook and booked directly with hotel on a busy weekend. Very central location, just a block from Florida. I think we paid about US$40.

The room was smaller, but very clean and relatively new, as was the bathroom. Friendly staff. Air conditioning and TV included. Typical Argentine breakfast was included (medialunas/croissants, coffee or tea, and juice).

I could see how some people might have a problem with the noise. We were used to noisy Buenos Aires after several weeks in an apartment and didn´t notice. No matter what what hotel you stay at - one block from Florida is going to be noisy.

A good value and central location for the budget traveller. Recommended.

“Central but noisy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2007

The hotel is centrally located which is certainly a positve feature as we walked everywhere. However, this also means there is a lot of traffic (ie bus stops in front of building) and much street noise. We had a large front room and the noise both outside and inside was a major detriment to the enjoyment of our stay. The rooms have high ceilings and the building itself has seen more elegant times. We were originally assigned room 12 which we did not find acceptable because it was grungy and much too small. The other rooms at the back of the hotel while likely more quiet are small and accessible though a very narrow corridor. The staff are friendly. Breakfasts were skimpy and boring.

  • Liked — high ceilings of room
  • Disliked — noise (both inside and outside the room)

“Good location in Buenos Aires”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2007

The positive thing about the hotel is its very central location in Buenos Aires. Although you do have to ring the buzzer at all times to get into the hotel, which can be a little annoying at times. You then proceed to state your room number in Spanish, not the easiest thing to do after a few drinks. Breakfast is okay, a croissant or two, glass of orange and one cup of tea or coffee (you do have to ask for a refill). Staff are pleasant enough with a strict checkout time of 10AM! It is a nice hotel with a charming interior with internet access that you pay for. Rooms are pleasant enough with cable TV (reception was poor in my room).

“There are worse hotels than the Frossard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2006

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights. Good points:
- Friendly and helpful staff, the staff in the day speak English well and are happy to book city tours, tango shows etc. Through a series of unfortunate events we had some luggage stolen from the hotel and the staff accompanied us to the police station to make a report.
- Well located, one block away from the pedestrian streets of Florida and Lavalle, and close to many tourist spots in the city. We walked everywhere and did not need a taxi or the subte.
- Rooms are by and large air-conditioned with an ensuite, but there are a couple of rooms without these amenities. However, they are clean and we've stayed in shabbier hotels for a lot more money. The pictures on the hotel's website are representative but think SMALL (we took some pictures but they look the same as on the website, the size doesn't come out well in pictures).
- The hotel will hold your luggage if going elsewhere for a few days. It's held in a very visible area though, so think twice about it and don't leave anything valuable.
- Airport pickup was offered to us when we booked, for US$18. Note though that we had to pay the driver rather than the hotel, who asked for 55 pesos. We hadn't changed our US dollars yet, and he charged us US$20. The moral of the story is, get some Argentinian pesos before you leave the airport.

Bad points:
- Rooms are tiny and the bathrooms miniscule. The Argentine obsession with bidets means there is even less usable room in the bathroom. It's worth the extra money for a larger triple room, but these are in high traffic areas of the hotel so may not be very quiet.
- Rooms at the front of the hotel are noisier, with buses stopping in front of the hotel. The noise is not unbearable though, and did not prevent us from sleeping nor did it wake us in the mornings.
- The hotel is reasonably secure with everyone entering being screened by reception, but we still had luggage stolen from there. It's a long story and unlikely to happen to anyone else, and the staff were very apologetic and were very helpful afterwards, from accompanying us to the police station, to providing a phone card for international calls and giving us a large discount for our stay, although stopped short of offering to replace lost items.
- Internet access is available but much more expensive than internet cafes, which are in every street in that area.
- Croissants, orange cordial and coffee/tea with UHT milk for breakfast is boring after 2 days let alone 6.

“Not bad for $50 US, I guess......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2006

The building was indeed an old French mansion which had a little bit of charm left as evident in the moldings & high ceilings but the rooms themselves had no charm. They were small & the bathrooms were so tiny that the shower floor was the same as the bathroom floor & when you took a shower you had to wipe down the floor & the toilet seat as water gets all over the bathroom. They even have a floor squigy thing for you to move the water into the drain. Beds were small but acceptable but beddings & towel were warn & old looking even though all appeared very clean. Room itself was very clean which was a big plus. Cable TV & A/C were fully operational. Hair dryer is avail at front desk. Location is central & banks & deli/supermarket are just doors down but the area is not necessarily the best. So much foot traffic since close to the pedestrian only shppg streets but late at nite (after 11pm) appeared a bit seedy and desolute. You also have to be buzzed in late at nite which is good for safety but waiting to be buzzed in can be a bit unnerving especially when the front desk is not on the ground floor so you are at the mercy of the buzzer. The man primarily at the front desk during the day spoke english very well & was very helpful. Their 3 small cressent roll, caffeine & Tang was decent for breakfast. In conclusion, for a $50 bargain, what can one expect!
