We were upgraded to deluxe suite which is beautifully decorated.
Location: central, walking distance to most things (Casa Rosada, malls, restaurants, supermarkets). Located on pedestrian steet. No problem with safety when walking around.
Service: service ok. Sometimes the staff opened the door when they saw me coming back from sightseeing, sometimes they simply walked away. In general they are okay. The only thing is we requested a simple breakfast at 1/2 hr before the official's breakfast hour and was told we needed to pay. The only time in South America where we told this. See my review for Santiago Crowne Plaza which not only served us breakfast at 5 AM, they even wheeled a breakfast fit for royalty to our room or Rio Porto Bay whose lone staff prepared us breakfast at 3 AM.
In fact, we felt Argentina is the country where we felt we needed to pay for every little thing. We know we are not alone in this because one morning while having breakfast at the hotel we overheard a guest asking the waiter "is this included in the room rate?" when offered coffee. And ALL restaurants we went to in Argentina (big cities and small towns alike) when presenting us with the bill, it came with "tips is not included in the bill senor". While we understand this may be the local culture, everywhere else in South America although tips will go a long way with the low salary and whatsnot, tipping is usually silently hoped for discretely not demanded..
Room: beautidfully decorated! This is how I want my bedroom to look like. Floor to ceiling timber hallway in the room, modern furnishing, separate toilet, shower and bath tub area. Sine our room was on the 2nd floor, it faced directly into another building. Management needs to pay attention to finer detail. Beautiful glass door for toilet was broken, rubbish bin was open but we didn't really mind because we got upgraded. Clean and spacious room & bathroom. Our stay was over one Saturday and until early morning we could hear music from the nightclub which is directly from opposite from the hotel. If you are a lightr sleeper, asks for a room far far away and not facing the nightclub.
There is a separate elevator to go to our room sections which makes us extra special.
Breakfast: very-very good yogurt (in glass jar) and good selection of food. There is enough meat selection to make any carnivore happy.
Overall Melia on Reconquista is a good hotel and we would probably stay here again.
