“Extremely unhelpful front desk staff, not even close to being 4 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

I used my airline miles to defer the cost of this hotel and this is the only reason I stayed here despite all the negative comments. The location was central, buffet breakfast was great, and wireless was free only in the lobby. Our 8th floor room was on the back side which was great because the street noise was less and the view was open. However, whenever the shower was turned off in any of the rooms nearby, the noise sounded and was as loud as a JACKhammer. We were woken up many times during the night. The room was fine (small) with a refrigerator and new bathroom. The spa in the basement charged a small amount for daily usage (around $4 USD). The hotel experience was bleak because the front desk staff were so unhelpful. I asked for change since all the ATM's give you only 100's and without even looking in their cash drawer, the male clerk said NO. Many other examples how they were just apathetic and lacking in any kind of hospitality. Also, there was often a bottleneck since there was only 1 person doing bills/handling money. Seems like many local Argentinians stay there, so maybe they just get tired of tourist questions (& I was speaking in Spanish). To the management: please hire some pleasant customer oriented front desk staff. Luckily everywhere else in Argentina, the experience was great. Later, we stayed at the BA Hilton. Much better location and much better service.

Room Tip: Rooms on the backside don't have balconies but are quieter.

“Excellent location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

The Republica is extremely well situated: just in front of the Obelisco and close to the main shopping areas around Calle Florida. It is a large traditional hotel offering the whole range of services one expects. The hotel has been extensively renovated (at least the top floors) and the rooms have a new, modern look. It also has a large spa that can be used at no charge by hotel guests. The hotel staff I dealt with were not very helpful but were at least polite.

Turning to the rooms, if you book a small room you'll be shocked by how small it is: not enough space to move around the bed ! Although the room was identified by the hotel as 'small', I was not expecting it to be that small. But the room was extremely clean.

Room Tip: Small rooms are very small

“OK BUT TAKE EARPLUGS”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

Great city centre location overlooking the Obelisk but it is also one of the busiest traffic junctions in BA so if you want to sleep well take the earplugs. Hotel is typical business, short stop hotel. Reception is small but staff were helpful throughout even though we didn't speak spanish. Our room was deluxe on the front, still quite small but functional and clean. The shower room was clean and well tiled. Breakfast was busy and a cold buffet but there was sufficient choice to satisfy us. I was disappointed with the pool as I thought as a guest it would be free but was told I would have to pay 24 peso for a towel to use it, so not free. Also charge for internet useage. Overall it is not 4 star but does the job.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a balcony room as the others looked dismal.

“Hotel Republica, small but decent room, service so so. A little bit expensive...”

I stayed in Hotel Republica in 20 of August of this year, on the way to Bariloche. This hotel has a good location, but your rooms are so small, but are ok (look like new). The bathroom look like new too (i was in this hotel 2 years ago and both look like an old motel), but has no jacuzzi (just shower). This hotel staff have a guilty in my angry because they promisse put me in high level room, but put me in 1o Floor!!!! Breakfast is ok. But what i hate in this hotel is your price. Comparatively with Hotel Colon, across the street has a better breakfast, better room size and cheaper. If you can stand in Hotel Colon, i reccomend, if don't, you will pay more US$ 20 to stay in Hotel Republica.

“Decent.. but not worth it..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

My boyfriend, his parents and I stayed at this hotel for a couple days. I was expecting a lot more. I will admit the location is nice because the subway is right by the hotel and you can get around very easily and fast. Besides the location, I would not recommend staying here unless you are getting a premium room. There is a spa connected to the hotel but it closes at 8:30 PM and doesn't open until 10:00 AM. There is nothing else to do in the hotel unless you want to spend a huge amount of money on the food. They claimed that they had an american burger but the bacon was not cooked all the way, the bread was not even break and it was all broken and cracked, and the burger patty was not even correct, it was more similar to a sausage patty. My boyfriend ordered two dishes with french fries, one for dinner and one for lunch, and the french fries were cold both times. My Carbonara was completely flavorless as well. The food was very low quality and extremely expensive. There is nothing cheap in the hotel at all and all of it is low quality for the price you pay. The employees are carless as well. The hotel is EXTREMELY NOISY!!!!
