“Perfect location, great front desk”

OK people. I've read the reviews here and I'm gonna add another because we just returned from B.A. and stayed 4 nights at Hotel Plaza Francia in a standard room. We didn't pay extra for a room on the front of the hotel which would have a really great view if you are high enough up. And there are suite rooms on the front of the hotel that looked really nice. One of these rooms had its door open one morning and I peeked in. It was really nice. We stayed in a standard room with no view. But who cares? We slept there and the hotel was very quiet. The bed was very comfortable. The furniture is older but again who cares? The TV wasn't a nice flat panel like at home but it had several English language channels on it. But if you care about having new furniture, flat screen TV, huge room, luxurious bathroom, you need to go around the corner to the Caesar Park Hotel for about $400/night. You will LOVE that hotel. But we weren't going to pay $400/night. Instead, we paid under $100 a night for a clean room in a nice little boutique hotel in the perfect location in Recoleta. The hotel is about 10 or 12 stories high but only about 25 feet wide on the front. So that's what you get. A tiny front lobby, tiny front sitting area, tiny breakfast area. But the front desk people spoke English and were able to answer every question we had. A younger guy there was very cool and gave us good advice. We gave him a big tip when we left. The breakfast is much like all breakfasts at the small hotels. It's fruit, toast, yogurt, cheese, scrambled eggs, croissants, cereal and really good coffee. Again, if you want a fancy schmancy breakfast, go around the corner to the Caesar Park Hotel or to the Alvear Palace Hotel. You can get a spacious fancy room at Alvear Palace (it's an amazing place) for $600/night. So everyone complaining on here about this hotel really needs to get a life and realize that you aren't paying for the Alvear Palace or Caesar Park. If you get the cheap room at Hotel Plaza Francia, give it a shot and see if they will upgrade you for free. They might b/c the front desk guys were pretty nice. We didn't even ask though. But still, might as well ask them. The only thing that was difficult in this hotel is that they have both a toilet and a bidet in the bathroom. This made the bathroom extremely cramped. So cramped that you had to wedge yourself between the sink and the toilet in order to sit down on the toilet. The toilet was so close to the sink that you could put your head on the sink and take a nap while sitting on the toilet. I guess that could come in handy at times. I don't know if all the bathrooms are like that, but ours sure was. But again, we didn't live in our room. We had much too much to do and see. We would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat because the area is super safe and soooooo convenient to alot of things. Be ready to walk alot because this is a walking city. We probably walked 30 miles in 4 days.

“Great place to stay in this great city!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2010

We originally stayed at the Plaza Francia four years ago on our first trip to Buenos Aires and were very pleased with the selection I made online. On our recent return there, we tried to get the same room, but it was now smoking so we were moved up one floor to an identical room (a jr. suite; room #100). It's good sized with a sitting area (couch, coffee table, two chairs, desk, chest with a mirror over it) and the bedroom (king bed and nightstands) with an accordion door that can be pulled to separate the two areas. Each room has a window that can be opened and a nice view. There's a closet in each room (the one in the sitting area has a safe in it). The bathroom has tub/shower and adequate counter space for toiletries, hair dryer and magnifying mirror.

An excellent, varied breakfast (scrambled eggs, danish, croissants, rolls, meat, cheese, yogurt, fresh fruit salad, bread for toast, jam) is included. The breakfast room is bright and comfortable. There is a bar in the lobby area, which has a number of couches, overstuffed chairs and tables, and we sometimes had a drink there when we returned from a day of sightseeing before going up to our room.

The staff is friendly and helpful. There is free computer use.

The location in Recoleta is excellent. There are many restaurants within walking distance, as well as many not to miss sights. We were very comfortable walking around the hotel at night.

If we are fortunate to return to Buenos Aires this is where we will again stay.

“Great location, in need of updating, reasonable overall value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2009

This traditional style hotel is a reasonable choice for a great location in Recoleta, assuming you are not paying too much. It is showing its age and could certainly use updating and cleaning (rugs, wallpaper, paint, wall hangings, etc). Buenos Aires was unusually warm a few days of our stay for this time of year, and the A/C was struggling to meet the challenge. We've read reviews below that breakfast was not good, but we thought it had a pretty good selection of warm and cold items -- something for everyone. It was fun to have the Feria Artesanal de Plaza Francia just across the street, and you might catch a glimpse of Robert Duval at the nearby Cafe La Biela (as we once did).

“This hotel is an excellent value with a wonderful location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2009

This hotel was recommended to us by Argentinians familiar with Buenos Aires hotels. We pass on the recommendation to everyone else with only one small qualification (which cannot be corrected): excellent location, helpful/friendly staff, comfortable room, great price, free wifi, but very tiny bathroom (i.e., virtually no counter space). It may not be the best place for a romantic honeymoon, but if you want a good spot to sleep and see the sights of Buenos Aires, we think it is great.

“Good location, helpful staff”

We were traveling on business and found the Hotel Plaza Francia to be an excellent bargain in a good location on the edge of the Recoleta district. The staff was very helpful in arranging tours and making reservations for us at various restaurants (since neither one of us spoke Spanish). The room was fine, not fancy. Nice view of Buenos Aires and the park. We loved that the window opened. It is a small, older hotel. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

  • Liked — The location and friendly staff
  • Disliked — Room only average, but view good and window opened.
