“Keep an open mind!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

If you like a boutique hotel that is clean, provides a simple breakfast and a convenient location, then you will be happy to find this little pleasant hideaway in San Telmo, one of the oldest districts in BA. The hotel staff are pleasant, internet is complimentary, electricity adaptors are available, breakfast is mostly a cold buffet with nice flaky croissants, and the rooms, though small, are clean, quiet and have a wealth of music channels. There is a large living space downstairs with magazines, TV, music and lots of seating for those who want to escape their small room.

Some people may find the location questionable, but the issue is homeless people who posed no alarm to us females from NYC who used caution. There is a daily artisan market in the Plaza two blocks away, great parillas and restaurants, ice cream shops and bars along Defensa street. In addition the 152 bus can take you all around town to museums, Palermo, Recoleta and La Boca all for 1.10 pesos and within 10 minutes! Puerto Madero, the newest waterfront neighborhood, is also a short 10 minute walk away. The subway is 10 blocks away along a busy road. If you are adventurous and easygoing, you will find Ribera Sur Hotel to be convenient and pleasant.

“Boutique hotels are not for children”

It is a nice hotel in a neighborhood full of things to be discovered. Small rooms but yet confortable. The negative side during our stay was being awaked by children running in the corridor. Because of the size of the hotel and the expected quiteness, children do not fit in a hotel like this. May be a regulation accepting only children 12 years old and up should be adopted.

“Not sure how this hotel is, they lost our reservation!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2010

I made our reservation on Expedia, several weeks in advance, but did not call the day or few days before to confirm. Definitely a mistake. We got there, the receptionist spoke no English, and told us she was sending us to a different hotel, the Americana Plaza Hotel. She said she would pay for the cab ride there. Once in the cab, we asked the cabbie if he knew that Ribera Sur would be paying the fare, he had not been told about that. He had to have his cab company call Ribera. Once we arrived at Americana, they had not been informed of us being sent there. So, needless to say, Ribera Sur could have done a better job of accomodating us after loosing our reservation. I think it worked out for the best, Americana was in a better location.

“Modern Boutique Hotel in a great neighborhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2009

I was nervous when the cab dropped us off on what looked like a highway with somewhat dilapidated storefronts and a McDonalds, but we were pleasantly surprised to enter such a cool, modern lobby with the best pool in the back! Our room was itty-bitty, so tiny in fact that we weren't sure where to put our suitcases. Unfortunately, we had to put them next to the bed and hope not to trip on them on the way to the bathroom. Other than that, the room was modern and simplistic. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. One of the guys mapped out a great walking tour for us. Breakfast was good, but nothing to write home about. Overall, this place was a steal for $100 US with tax and breakfast!
As for the neighborhood, we caught on quick that as soon as you turn the corner off of that busy street, you are immediately on a beautiful, cobblestoned street in the heart of a lively, quaint neighborhood. On our way home one night, a drum party spontaneously formed in the middle of street. Hundreds of people jumped in and danced all the way across the neighborhood. When an ambulance came down the narrow cobbled street, the crowd just parted , the ambulance passed by quietly, the crowd reconvened and went on dancing (as did we...you know, "when in San Telmo").

“Delightful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2009

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in every way. The room was small but clean, elegant, comfortable, quiet, and perfect for what we wanted. We enjoyed the proximity to the San Telmo district (without being in the middle of the noise) and the Puerto Madero district. The breakfast room was also very pleasant. The hotel is a good value.
