Would have left sooner if Thomas cook resort office had pulled their fingers out!
What can I say. We arrived early hours on 4th oct. First thing you are confronted by at the entrance is a huge sign forbidding anyone to take in food, drink, alcohol or a kettle! Warning you that if you do and the cleaners find them they will confiscate them!
I was too tired for a confrontation after travelling for 15 hours so simply filled in the paperwork and the receptionist showed us to our room. We had to go through the bar where a few old drunks were still drinking and then outside to the pool area. There are no lights outside at all! It could be a potential deathtrap. We got the room and the receptionist scuttled off. I had a quick look outside at the 'terrace'. OMG! we were below ground level (room 112) and the sight I was confronted by was an 'L' shaped area with dirty, damp stained Walls all round with weeds where I assume once were flower beds. I was somewhat dismayed at the thought of spending 14 days looking at that. When we booked we requested a pool view, now I know that can't be guaranteed, but I did expect A view!
Then I looked in the kitchen cupboards and found ONE glass. That was it ! No cups, plates, cutlery nothing. But there were 2 more WARNING signs. One confirming the no food, drink or kettle rule, the other warning you not to bring a fan into your room for fear of confiscation. The only other alternative is to pay £35 per week for the air con.
We tried to sleep on the hard beds. When we woke at around 10am we discovered that breakfast finishes at 9-30 and the hot water is only on between 6-9am. So it was no breakfast and cold showers all round and due to the absurd NO KETTLE rule, no tea or coffee! What a place! They should simply replace the large sign outside reception with one saying'DEAR GUESTS,PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOT HERE TO ENJOY YOURSELVES,ONLY TO BE RIPPED OFF BY OUR STAFF'. We looked in the superfluous fridge only to find it stocked with extortionately priced water and soft drinks. For example, a bottle of fantastic in a supermarket is 1.7TL, the same bottle in the saray is 7TL!
We went to reception to express our dissatisfaction and were told to come back later and they could possibly change our room. I said our rep was in at 1-30 so I would speak to her, he said no no, no need to tell her. But after looking around at the broken sun beds with ripped mattresses and general condition of the hotel we decided we wanted to change hotels.
We met the rep. When asked why we were not told of the endless list of rules when we booked at our local Thomas cook travel agent, she tried to waffle her way round it by saying they can't tell potential guests as the hotel could change it's policies whenever they want. I told her I had been online whilst waiting for her and people were complaining about this hotel as long ago as 2008.
Any way, we finally got moved, were charged an extra £80 for the privilege even though we went from b&b to self catering??? And we are currently sunning ourselves at the wonderful Pinara appts.
I posted this review whilst still on holiday because if I can help someone else avoid the hideous Saray then it has been worth breaking into my valuable holiday time.
