“What a fantastic find.”

I read all the reviews before I booked, and so my expectations were very high. I was not disappointed. As a solo traveller, I am used to being given the smallest room in the hotel. I arrived at the Gonul at 3.30a.m. to be greeted by Byram the Manager. Another single lady had also just arrived, and I feared the worst as there are only 16 rooms in this hotel. However, we were both shown to a double room, with a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. I was very impressed.

I cannot really add much more to all the good comments, it has all been said. I disagree with the adverse comments. The room was of considerable size, the balcony lovely. The shower always hot. The room immaculately cleaned every day. Breakfast much more than adequate. What can I say. If you want first class everything, then pay for it. For £15.00 per night, it was brilliant.

As per some of the other recommendations, I found the Cin Cafe which was very basic but, so good. I ate the 'Turkish Meal' which consisted of homemade soup followed by a local concotion of beans, rice, and various other bits. All for 7 TL, plus a large Efes, the meal cost me less than £5.00 and I could not have eaten more. The Jewel in the Crown, for me, was just across the roundabout. Funnily enough called 'The Magic Roundabout. The food was superb. Danish bacon, English sausage, two fried eggs, mushrooms, home made hash browns, tomatoes and toast - all for 5 TL (less than £2.00) The freshly squeezed orange juice was to die for. I also went several times for dinner. The quality of the food was far superior to anything at double the price in town. The Manager Ali, his right hand man Akmed and the rest of the staff were superb. Not only was the food magnificant and so much cheaper than only 100 yards away, but you got FREE!!!! the most amazing Pitta bread, garlic butter and dips. Trust me, the best place for food, service and price in town.

I am already looking to go back to the Gonul in September, but due to its popularity, there are no rooms available until the end of the month!!

“Fantastic Hotel, Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2011

Having found the hotel on Trip Adviser, it seemed to good to be true. Having arrived late at night, we were welcomed by Atakhan & Ahmet. With the power of Google translate (their English is basic but improving all the time!) we managed to move from our double room to a twin.
The rooms are basic, but spotless and have a good balcony. Despite being told it would be cleaned every other day, they came everyday and did a great job of not only cleaning, but tidying up as well. Best shower I've ever had on holiday too.
The family who run the hotel are great and nothing is too much trouble.
The pool was large, clean and with loads of sun loungers. There are great views of the mountains surrounding the area.
A few minutes walk to Ovacik with good restaurants and shops (a bit cheaper than Hisaranou only 2 minutes further away.) Hisaranou market on Mondays is great, but be prepared to haggle. Hisaranou nightlife wasn't really my thing, but lots of the hotels have quieter bars that are just as cheap.
The Gonul Hotel and the town really changed my opinion of Turkey and I would definately go again.
Met some great people, who absolutely made the holiday.

“Picturesque and welcoming.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2011

Had some holiday to use up and decided a trip to Turkey was just what I needed....and I wasnt disappointed. Having searched for a nice destination, Olu Deniz, I found the Gonul Hotel which had great reviews and was very well priced. Although in Ovacik its an easy place to base yourself and travel to the surrounding towns of Olu Deniz or even Fetiye. The taxis are cheap but the buses even cheaper. The hotel is compact with just 12 rooms which means plenty of room around the large and well looked after pool and gardens. Its a typically family run hotel with Byram and his team bending over backwards to help in anyway they can. The food is great, the rooms are clean and the beer flows until you go to bed!! I had a great time including paragliding off the top of the nearby Babadag mountain from 6500ft, scuba diving out of Fetiye and Quad biking twice as it was so much fun. To those who say that the rooms are small and the beds a bit hard I would say......why, with so much to do and see, are you paying so much attention to your rooms!! To those of you thinking about going to the Gonul I would say you wont be dissapointed.

“We definately will go back.”

As with most flights to Turkey we arrived at The Gonul Hotel late at night, the reception was closed up (but think it was because it was a bit early in the season, the reception seemed to be open when we left). We headed to the Bar area where we were met by Bayrum and his nephew, who welcomed us and insisted taking our cases to our room.

Our room was small and basic, but very clean, almost like it had been recently redecorated for the new season. Then we went down to the bar for a drink. There was a couple of residance that had been there for over a week and we soon realised that we were amonst freinds. The hotel has only 16 rooms, so we noticed that everyone chatted with each other and before the end of our holiday we had made some nice freinds during our stay.

Breakfast- Well we kind of expected a Turkish breakfast, but it was very minimal, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Olives, Bread, Cold Hard Bolied Eggs and strange tasting Tea, no coffee, that was extra, which we thought was its only let down. Why charge extra for coffee?? Anyway, there are plenty of places in Ovacik or Hiserano that did an English Breakfast if you wanted it. We went to the Coffee Pot (Ovacik) most days, their Breakfast was 10TL but you got English Tea or Coffee in with the price, and the Bacon and Sausage was English. It's ran by a Turkish guy and his English wife, and they're very freindly.

Evening Meal- We only had one evening meal at Hotel Gonul but it was lovely, some of the other residance did it there regulally, but we liked to try different places. We had a snack one day and that was nice too. Bayrum's wife (I think) is around the bar and eating area all the time (as is Bayrum) so you can always get something to eat or drink. We asked him what time the bar closes he lead us to believe he closes when the last customer goes, or if no-one is around.

All in all I recommend this hotel if you are a couple or family that likes a quiet holiday, its a little no frills, but if you just want a base its ideal. I wouldn't recommend the hotel for children, altho there is a play area with plastic slide and things, thats all.

Oh must mention the 3 Cockerels in houses surrounding the hotel, they can be a little annoying (crowing constantly), but after a while you kinda get used to it. And in reply to a previous review, yes the beds are a little hard, but I prefer that, so its personal preferance.

“Brilliant value and so much to do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2011

This hotel really is excellent value for money - I cannot believe how much we paid for what we got! It is spotless, has a large pool with plenty of sunbeds and the cafe/bar is always open to supply drinks and snacks although these are slightly more expensive than when you go into the nearby town of Hisoranu.
The best thing about it is that it is surrounded by the most stunning mountains that I defy anyone to tire of - you can watch the paragliders coming down while you sip your beer from the pool.
I have read in other reviews that it is out of the way and hard to get to - it isn't. It is up a slight incline, but if this is difficult then taxis are easily available. The dolmus buses stop just a few hundred metres away and are constantly going to Oludeniz and Fetiyhe so it's very easy to get around. If you want to go to the beach then it is a ten minute ride on the dolmus and it is very special indeed - it is easy to see why it is onr of the most photographed beaches in the world.
I could go on - but it's best to experience the place for yourself - you won't be disappointed!
